(Note: This is a hiking trip which requires basic level of physical fitness. )
Welcome to a region of Catalunya with volatile geological history, the only volcanoes on Spanish mainland on Iberian peninsula. An area with around 40 volcanoes within a single park. The region that is still seismically active, last eruption that occured in 1428, causing many casualities even in Barcelona..
La Garrotxa is a National park in Catalunya covers 12,093.02 hectares, and includes territory from eleven municipalities in the comarca of Garrotxa. The built-up areas of Olot, Santa Pau, Sant Joan les Fonts and Castellfollit de la Roca are completely surrounded by the park.
The mountain landscape, the sun and climate provide a variety of vegetation, often exuberant, with holm oaks, common oaks and beech trees of exceptional value to the landscape.
We will walk all way into the La Garrotxa National park from Sant Miquel Sacot to Volcano of Santa Margarida, Croscat Volcano and through the forest of Fageda d'en Jorda, before leaving the beautiful town of Olot.
We will meet at Teisa Bus Station at street Calle Pau Claris 118, at 9.00 AM. We will take the Bus that departs at 09.30 AM. We will reach Santa Pau at 11.30 AM. We will initially have breakfast in beautiful town of Santa Pau, before starting the hike in Garrotxa Natural park.
We will arrive back in Santa Pau around 17.30h in restaurant Can Xel, where we will have late lunch before heading off to Barcelona in same Teisa Pvt Bus that will arrive in Barcelona around 20.30h.
