This are just some words from the Culti Group Organizer.... Together with Martina in NRW we're working on helping the international comunitee out with organizing proper events ( on which everyone is welcome....). Martina and me are making this effort, and more and more people are starting to help out to.
A little bit more help might be needed, because yesterdays German Language Meetup showed things don't always go right. At this moment in NRW there are more people interested in attending to meetups than into helping out with the organization a bit, which means at this moment there are to much organizational tasks for to little people. Which causes problems. That are there to be solved.
What went wrong? 4 weeks ag or so I lined up a meetup in Pardo bar. Just like on previous occasions, I asked for a table on E-Mail. The same address that worked out just fine last month, but this month it didn't. Even not after sending a reminder. I had to start making phonecalls, for which I didn't really have time, but on the commantline of the event people told me they were refused entrance. So trouble shooting was needed big time.
The call at itself was not easy. Even though Pardo bar mashed up here, I had to take no for an answer two times before Pardo Bar started being a bit flexible, while people were waiting outside.... I'm not used to this at all, but if this is the way thinks are like in this case, than so be it.... The manager I spoke to wasn't very flexible at all, but he was very patient, more patient than I am used to in other area's, and this mathers to.
For the next event things need to be a bit different though, because people that come should walk into a situation where things are organized enough to have an easy going meetup. I will line up the event in the same venue, plus I will try and figure out what does work, plus if Pardo bar didn't confirm the reservation a week in advance, I will relocate the event to Vapiano. Events in Vapiano have other difficulties, but as long as there is someone with a meetup sign, they work out just fine...
If there are members who'd like to host a German Language Meetup: please let it be heard :). Also, another thing I'd like to ask to all members: please be as punctual as you can with your reservations for events. I'll keep on being polite on this point always, but no shows are a lot bigger problems for proper event hosting than most people seem to realize....
Anyone that wants to start helping out a bit: please drop me a mail, or meet me in Venlo on March 23 :)
Thanks for reading, and on to the next one :)
