Meetup Description: Dansgroep Amsterdam and Dance Works Rotterdam join forces for a modern dance show in the Amsterdam Vondelpark. There are five short shows. Moving Being, Pulse, Six, Variaties on a Theme and Drumming. Entire evening is FREE of entrance.
Moving Being is the sequel to Dance Works Rotterdams? artistic director Ton Simons? well received Human Figures. It?s a choreography based on Bach?s Das Wohltemperierte Clavier I. The music will be performed by the Portuguese pianist Manuel Ara?jo. Computer driven light projections are done by Peter Struycken, one of the most renowned modern artists in the Netherlands, in association with Dani?l Dekkers.
Pulse is a show with the music of Gy?rgy Ligeti, whose music you may know from the movies. Kubrick used it for his 2001: A Space Odyssey. World-renowned choreographer Krisztina de Ch?tel chose the piano etudes of the Hungarian-Austrian Ligeti for an entirely new performance.
Six springs from the hypnotic, pulsating music of Steve Reich?s Six Marimbas. Reich is like the granddaddy of club beats. He was avant-garde long before a progressive dj like John Digweed was even wetting his diapers. Six is a game with form, structure and time.
Variations on a Theme. With this show Krisztina de Ch?tel looks back at the beginning of her carreer. She asked Massimo Molinari, dancer and assistant artistic director, to redo her first solo in 1979 with music from Philip Glass.
Drumming is from the show For Heaven?s Sake of Itzik Galili. The celebrated British magazine Dance Europa pronounced it Outstandig Performance for 2004.
