Announcing a new Meetup for The Culture and Enlightenment Societie of Holland!
What: Het Rijksmuseum!
When: 2 January 2010, 13.30
Where: Rijksmuseum, Spiegelgracht Bridge, Amsterdam
As we are all gradually recovering from the excesses of merrymaking on the day after 2010 begins, how about we kick off the new decade with a sobering visit to Amsterdam's grandest museum, the Rijksmuseum
? Many of you have already been to the place, but many haven't. The destination is a good one, no matter what your past background. For we leave the past in '09!
What can you see at the museum of the Dutch Reich? They say it's got Hals, Rembrandt and Vermeer
, and unless they're lying through their teeth I say that that by itself, as well as the museum's fame (a million visitors per year), are enough reason for us to go give this place a look-see.
Now the details. The museum is located at Jan Luijkenstraat 1, but I propose we meet
opposite the museum (just north of it) on the Spiegelgracht bridge
) as it is a better landmark. (The Aeroflot building, another visual landmark, stands right next to the bridge.) Let's meet at 13:30
Admission is free
for Museum Card
holders (and for people looking younger than 18). For the rest, it's a pricey 12,50 euros
. However! If you don't have one already, you ought to be able to buy a Museum Card right at this establishment for about 40 euros, which will entitle you to free access to all museums in the country for a whole year. Why not make yourself this present for the year 2010?
See you at the Rijks!
