Zydeco Dancing with River City Slim and The Zydeco Hope

Cajun & Zydeco dances for Boston

Zydeco dance events in the New England area. Also cajun dancing.
Lots of lessons from experienced instructors.

Live bands from Louisiana as well as excellent local live bands, often on the 4th Saturday.

And Remember - this is really fun. Perhaps the best fun dancing on the planet.

What is Zydeco

Zydeco evolved from the music of Creoles, French speaking people of color in Louisiana. Zydeco emerged in the 50's incorporating additional influences such as blues and rock & roll.

While the fiddle is generally absent (unlike Cajun), Zydeco is usually played with accordion, electric guitar and bass, drums, and sometimes even a saxophone. Perhaps the most distinctive instrument of zydeco (besides the accordion) is a corrugated metal rubboard (called a frottoir) .

Modern zydeco has evolved to take on many influences including hard rock, rap, reggae, and hip-hop.

Sizzling or slow, this blues-inspired Zydeco will capture your heart and imagination! Soon your feet will find the groove, then you are lost in the music.

Can you imagine what it would have looked like if we danced together?

Although I could easily go without a meetup group and have done so, I'm glad I signed up and could be under the meetup signs and quickly determine who was part of the group to interact with. People were very responsive.

I had a great time. The meetup group was extra friendly last night, as were all the non-meetup people there, too - very sociable group, easy to ask anyone to dance.

Thanks to all who tried to teach me the steps.

I'll be there at 7.30. There is a nice Spanish Restaurant
at Arsenal Complex, is anyone willing to enjoy dinner before?

    March 28

    • Ron R.

I think you're thinking of La Casa de Pedro - good venezuelan food, right in the arsenal.

      March 28

  • sashi

    Well Ladies,
I'll get the exact address tomorrow & post it. Should I make reservation for 4 at 6pm? Its not a good idea to rush through good food.

    March 28

  • Ron R.

it's just to the west of the arsenal complex. Some suggestions for dinner: Demo's for inexpensive greek food - on Mt. Auburn St; La Casa de Pedro - at the arsenal - venezualan food; Panera - at the arsenal, well, you know what you get there; Osha - across the street on Arsenal, japanese and thai food; Strip-Ts - wonderful sandwiches - on School Street; Miller's Ale House - on Arsenal Street - beer and large servings of food - sorta like the 99; Grappa - tiny italian restaurant on Elm St; Cafe Molana - wonderful persian food in Watertown Sq. on Spring St. Personally my favorites are Demos and Cafe Molana.
