Howdy. :) Longtime agnostic, atheist, humanist etc. originally from New Jersey, now living in Augusta County, recently joined the Skeptics and trying to help out with organizing and growing the group!
Diverse interesting folk, good humor, lively debate, what's not to like? :)
Thanks for the invite. I have never been to a skeptic meeting of any kind so I don't know how prepared I am.
Hi, Bill, Welcome to SVA. We are excited to have you. We should BE so "dis-organized" as you! Justin gave me the title "Organized" organizer, but in reality "dis-organized" should also be MY "title". I was actually thinking of changing it to that recently. :-) Our group has been in existence for only a few weeks, so we could use any advice you have to give...(you don't have to give "dis-organized" advice...I've got that one down"!) Please join us when you can.
Welcome to Southern Virginia Atheists, Bill! We are having our first discussion style meetup this Saturday at 2PM downtown Roanoke. I hope to see you there. If you need any directions on how to get there, email me and let me know. I hope that you will feel free to join our discussions on the Discussion Board, and start many conversations of your own. I hope that you use your freedom of speech and feel comfortable among friends, Welcome to SVA!
It would be possible to put the Shenandoah N.P. astronomy events on the calendar, they're open to the public, but admission to the Park does cost a little... Alternatively, you could schedule a group visit to McCormick Observatory for the whole group. I've suggested this several times at meetings but got no interest, oddly. Just call 924-7494 to set it up!
So you like the accent? Good, this fake Brit thing is working after all... ;-)
Re alternative locations for future meetups: Boylan Heights on the Corner could fit the bill (during the summer anyway). More suggestions will be forthcoming....
Until next time, chief dis-organizer!
Hi Bill, I sent you a message, which appeared on my Meetup site, but not yours. Did you receive it? I want to give you the directions to my house for Thursday in my email address: [masked]
Hi Bill, so you even have a bumper sticker advertising your heresy! Good show. Here's my email: [masked] and we can make arrangements for you to pick me up Thursday. AND, if you're feeling brave, I could drive us over in my van. I just need to build confidence in driving over to Charlottesville. I'm a careful driver, but not experienced---used to DC's Metro :) By Thursday, I might have chickened out.
Thanks for planning to attend the brunch this weekend. We're going to need help getting our act together and I know you will provide a push in the right direction!
Bill, I was sorry to miss the Tuesday get-together, but a really important writing opportunity has opened up and I have a difficult deadline to meet so have had to focus on that. Hope to make the next Thursday or Tuesday monthly meeting and will still need a ride :) Andrea PS How was your move? Hope it went smoothly and that you like your new place.
