Tim -

I have studied Czech in Prague at a few different summer courses related to the Univerzita Karlova. I live in New Jersey, so practicing Czech on any regular sort of basis is out of the question for me. Anyway, regarding your idea to use the Narodni Budova (Bohemian Hall - now called The Czech Center NY) I sincerely doubt they would let you use a room without paying a fee! In the "old days," when I lived in that neighbor, a few decades ago, the Bohemian Hall was falling apart and mouse- (if not rat-) infested. Now it's a pretty posh place, and I have a hunch they'd charge a fee. However, I may be wrong, so someone should give them a call!

Also - I used to live (yes, LIVE) in the Jan Hus Church nearby. It has definite Czech roots and history (either Jan or Tomas Masaryk slept there!) but I am sure they, too, would want to rent you a room for meetings.

I'm moving to Prague in August and would like to practice Czech before I leave. I used the same book in my class.

It seems like there's a lot of interest. What do all of you think if we arrange a meeting for Czech / English practice? Bohemian Hall is the obvious choice, although somewhere in midtown Manhattan might be more central for everyone. Also, what are your preferences for day / time?

Cheers!

I'd like to get together with beginners to practice Czech.
I'm using the text, "New Czech Step by Step" by Lida Hola.
I have taken a beginner course at the Bohemian Hall in Astoria.
cheers!
