A program to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Velvet Revolution

5:30 – 9:00 PM
Please join us for hors d’oervres and Czech beer as we start the evening in the University Club Ballroom. A cash bar will also be available.

First Person Recollections
Pittsburgher Pavel Tyrpak will provide an eyewitness account of the student demonstration that took place on Monday, November 20, 1989, and sparked the Velvet Revolution in Prague. We will also hear the stories of events that took place in the weeks that followed, spreading the news of the end of communist rule throughout Czechoslovakia.

Citizen Havel (Obcan Havel)
(2008)
A documentary, filled with personal and comedic moments, provides behind-the-scenes footage collected during the time Vaclav Havel served as president. The documentary was produced by a journalist and camera crew who were assigned to follow Havel’s every step, beginning with the exciting events of the Velvet Revolution and ending at the post office where Havel picks up his first retirement check. (120 min./ English subtitles)
