Cairn of the Winter King - Enter The Fortess

For the new players:

The Player Handbook 1 pdf is perma-linked on the Discussion board. Here are some other resources to help you understand the races and classes better as you begin to build characters:

The link below is the best free 4e character creation tool I can find.  It's kinda simple looking, but you can print your character sheet and ability pages.

Here are some guidelines:

• Start w/ any level 5 race and class combination.

• One weapon item with +2 or less.  Max item level is 10.

• One non-magical shield or weapon item

• One level 6 set of magical armor

• Any neck slot item with +1 magic

• You have 1 Adventurer's kit

• You have 840 gold to buy whatever you want.

Check out Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium, a resource for available common and uncommon items to add to your characters.

We will just assume you each have an adventurer's kit and some healing potions, we can note those on Tuesday. Read more about uploading and posting your character sheets here

• will give you some options and a reference as you build your character with the ibis tool.

• Follow the build rules please, the UI will tell you if you're doing anything wrong  :)

You should be able to find more info on google if you need it.

D&D Insider has the best tools and the complete 4e information.  Unfortunately, you have to pay $10 for a 1 month subscription.  It's cheaper for a longer term subscription.

What to bring

• Your printed character sheets, we want to keep this analog.

• A pencil w/ an eraser and some extra paper.

• A set of 7 die dice!  You can get these online or somewhere like Gamestop.

• Player Handbooks and miniatures if you have them.

We have some really great people with a lot of experience in this group.  Please feel free to ask questions on this thread or in the Discussion area.  You will only get great advice.

Hope to see you soon!

Hi everyone, can I please get a definite headcount of who is really planning to go tonight? Sometimes one or two don't make it for whatever reason and if I can get solid commitments, this will help me plan our game a bit better for tonight. If you don't think you can make it, please update your RSVP, as we have people on the wait list :)

Those that are on the waitlist are encouraged to come and meet the group and get a feel for the game play and the story.

We've found the front booth to be more comfortable than the back booth, but regardless you'll easily be able to spot us.

Arwyn is running an amazing adventure starting next Monday, so anyone who may be interested in joining her game should come meet her and the rest of the group. We will be having consistent games on Monday's and Tuesday's in order to split the groups evenly with 3-5 people in the Tuesday group and 3-4 people in the Monday group. Feel free to attend both sessions, they are completely different games.

Wow, Keith, thanks for the plug! My game is currently full (I posted it on other RPG meetups and got some love) but I will definitely wait list people because the world of gamers is flakeville. I will be there tonight!

Hi, mind if I join this session? I know you have limited space. I have my ranger uploaded in the file section. I also have my books, dice, minis, and combat tokens for the game.

Are there still openings for a new player for this group? Would love to play, it's been eons, but I am yearning for some RPG action and good times.

Check out this Cleric build: http://files.meetup.c.... Our discussion boards also have some good information on dps characters. We really do need a healer and this Cleric can do some damage as well.

Hey Lufty, welcome. Our greatest need is for a Leader type (like Keith's cleric). If you'd like to create your own you're more than welcome to; I know some people feel a bit more attached to their characters that way. has info on where you can post it once created. There are some new guidelines updated from the info above:
