Palo Alto HS Athletic Quad (map)
The highly anticipated, annual Dachshund Derby, The Highway Wiener Nationals is again planned for this year on Sunday, August 8th starting at 11:00am (be there by 10:30am).
DACHSHUNDS ONLY will take to the lawn at Palo Alto High School to showcase their speed and race for the title. Nathan and Roo have participated in this race, and it was a lot of fun. Nathan has won his heat, but unfortunately at the next race he got so excited he just jumped in the air and twirled! Roo saw something he liked better and ran sideways! Neither one came close to the finish line, but it was very cute to watch. All participants are very gentle with their pups...
If you'd like to enter YOUR Dachshund, please email your name, your dogs name, and a description of your dog to:
[masked]
Dean will email you back with a confirmation. If your dog is competing, you must arrive by 10:30am to sign in. This is a very well organized Event, so please don't be late.
If you don't want to enter your Dachshund in this fun, stress free Dachshund race, bring your Dachshund(s) to watch the races - it's a real hoot.
This FREE, Dachshund ONLY, 6th annual race will have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes! Bring a little money to purchase an Event T-Shirt - last years shirt was very cute...
It's National Mustard Day, and in celebration there will be a BBQ sausage feast served at and after the race. (all free)

I had a great time at this event! All three of my doxies crossed the finish line, but not in a particularly hurry! Presley stopped just outside the starting gate, looking confused. Priscilla finished and Bella did great! The Highway Church had lots of free hotdogs for everyone, but no t-shirts for participants due to budget cut backs. I suggested that they let us order them online next year if we want to pay for one, when we register our dogs. I love getting their cute t-shirts!
Hattie Mae, Coral and Gracie all went to the finals. We represented the Santa Clara Doxie group...Had a great time.

Louis woke up Sunday sick as a dog with some stomach ailment, so we did miss this wonderful event. I hope all who attended had a fabulous time. The Highway Church are a wonderful group of people who work very hard to make this event special - very bummed (and so are The Boys) we missed it. Who won?
