Next Gen Drupal Sitebuilding part 1

Sitebuilding in Drupal has come a long way over the years. If you are still only using nodes, blocks and basic Views, then these next two meetups are for you.

Mark Hanna will be taking us through a practical example of building a complete reviews system using the latest in Drupal Sitebuilding. This means Display Suite, Fieldgroup, Entity Reference, Entity Reference Prepopulate, Views, Entity Views Attachments (EVA), Token, and Rules.

Jan 21 -- Display Suite, Fieldgroup, Entity Reference, Views, and EVA

  • Walkthrough creation of Reviews content type with an Entity reference and Entity reference prepopulate widget
  • Display Suite layout and config with Fieldgroups
  • Creation of custom display suite field to add an "Add a review link" to the Article content type
  • Creation of Reviews list EVA views and explanation of EVA
  • Views topics will show off all major sections of views except relationships (class two) including contextual filters

Feb 18 -- Improving on our Reviews System

  • Views Relationships -- bring in the user table to have user information show on review listings
  • Rules -- Showcase Rules to add automatic redirect back to article reviews list after review creation
  • Will add some additional features showcasing rules
  • Basic CSS styling of our reviews view showing off Firebug

This meetup has always been billed as a session for Drupal power users. LevelTen has graciously offered many other opportunities for those just starting out.

I thought Mark did an excellent job of presenting on a topic that will be more and more important to mainstream Drupal development as time goes by. Thanks Mark!

I thought Mark did a good job of walking through the material in a short amount of time. The meetup description was fairly detailed about what would be covered and how. Although the presentation aspects could be improved, it was well worth my while, and I appreciate the speaker volunteering his time and effort.

To those complaining about the subject matter being non-beginner, please remember this was not a pure Drupal beginner level session, but one for those taking their Drupal site building to the next level. We try to feature both beginner and intermediate level sessions throughout the year, with the occasional advanced one for the serious devs.

I'll break up next meetups lesson with more step-by-step bullet points. I was trying to cover a lot of modules and wanted to focus on building practical example. My first one meetup, will take these comments, learn, and do better next time!

The speaker needed to have his speech more prepared this would have provided for more interaction of the group in building.

Being fairly new to drupal, I was lost most of the time - would have been better if the presenter was better prepared and was talking from some sort of script or bullets points rather than just winging it. Also, if presenter had a working example of what he was trying to accomplish and described what he was going to do before sitting down at his computer to do it, I probably wouldn't have been as lost. It also seemed as though he was talking to his computer rather than to the group. Would be a good thing to remember that people of all skill levels with Drupal are likely to attend. I know of two people that left because the subject matter, or at least the way it was presented, was way over their head.

Looks like a great meet-up! Will try to make it- but schedule is tight.

Should be Jan 21- changed in description - I must have been looking at a 2012 calendar..

The meetups are scheduled for Jan 21 and Feb 18, but the description shows Jan 17 and Feb 18. I assume the Jan 17 is incorrect?
