    There are so many sources for robotics components like motors and servos, does anyone have opinions on preferences for vendors or manufacturers? I'm assuming that it's always going to be a tradeoff between torque and battery life.

    I come from a strong professional software background, but just getting into robotics. My dad was a EE and I grew up with Heath Kits and Radio Shack projects so I'm comfortable around a soldering iron.

    So far I've been playing with the Arduino platform, but it seems it's easy to outgrow if you're trying to design an autonomous 'bot with more than trivial decision making abilities. I'm considering the Raspberry Pi. Thoughts?
