Daniel Cousineau - Queues and the Giant beanstalkd

  • Feb 12, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • SoftLayer Offices

This month we have one of our own co-organizers, Daniel Cousineau, presenting about queuing in PHP applications, specifically about beanstalkd: http://kr.github.com/beanstalkd

------------------

In the modern world of scaling web application, queues have become a go-to for increasing performance by parallelizing and backgrounding heavy duty tasks. However you don't have to be a huge mega-site to need performance boosts offered by parallelizing with queues. Have a report that takes hours to build? Have a batch operation that keeps you up all night? Learn practical usages of queues and parallelization through beanstalkd and PHP.

Thanks Daniel. We'll be putting much of that information into use on a few projects that are currently in the works.

Just so there's a clarification: This will **NOT** cover Amazon ElasticBeanstalk. This is covering beanstalkd, a self-hosted queue service, specifically.

HOWEVER, the concepts are design to be as generic as possible so you could apply them to ElasticBeanstalk.

Terrific! I've been doing a lot of research and experimentation with AWS. This will be good.
