John Syrinek - DevOps!

  • May 8, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • SoftLayer Offices

This month John Syrinek (also one of our speakers for the Lone Star PHP Conference) will be presenting about devops:

Set it up quick and keep it up forever – BASH your head in, Ubuntu to LAMP in minutes, and the modern day Argus: monit.

For those who haven't heard the term before, devops is the evolving set of practices that link software devs to the IT side of the house. It's all about the intersection of these two points to create useful, viable solutions.

Come hang out next Tuesday night (the 8th) and hear John share some of his experiences in this exciting trend in software development/operations!

Who: John Syrinek

Where: SoftLayer Offices on Alpha

When: May 8th @ 7pm

Also, a reminder: if you haven't picked up your tickets for this year's Lone Star PHP Conference (June 29th & 30th), be sure to pick some up! You can use the "LSPGROUP12" discount code to save on your order!

This was more LAMP 201 rather than 'DevOps' but was still informative.

He did good. Some things that could have been improved. I think he needed to talk louder for sure or have a mic. He sorta trailed off and got quieter as the meeting progressed. I think explaining the advantages of Monit over other monitoring software like Nagios (pros / cons) table as an intro would have been a stronger approach for that aspect of the presentation. I additionally felt research into the audience would have been better; most people in there already knew how to use vim and knew how to already setup a lamp stack. I felt the explanation over DevOps could have been more detailed. I still don't know what devops is!

John was great. He kept his style less one-way lecture-like by asking questions.
The topic was a little less advanced - considering the typical audience at these meetups.
