BYOC (Bring Your Own Code) & Book Swap

  • Dec 11, 2012 · 7:00 PM

Come join us on Tuesday night (the 11th) to finish out the year and enjoy the company of fellow developers. We're not going to have our usual meeting this month - instead we're having a Bring Your Own Code event. Bring that bit of code you've been having problems with or just some ideas you've been kicking around in your head. You can show off something cool you've done (lightening talks anyone?) or ask around and see if anyone else has been having the same problems you have.

We're also going to have a "book swap" going on - bring some of those tech-related books you have lying around (you know you have some) and share them with the group. You've found them useful, now 'tis the season to share that knowledge with someone else.

The floor wil be open if you'd like to present on any topic too! We're hoping for a few lightening talks during the evening...short talks, a few minutes long on whatever you can think of. You don't even need slides - just come throw your code up and talk about the cool work you've done!

We hope you'll join us and enjoy the evening with fellow developers of all skill ranges!

Just looking forward to picking up some specifics about PHP...

I would like to present a problem I've always struggled with in PHP. It has to do with SoapClient + Class Mapping + Multi-Namespaced WSDL. Would that be appropriate for this meetup?

Certainly. Our goal is for the open forum for short presentations to be of a "Lightning Talk" style (5-10 minutes, 5-10 slides) that anyone does just to talk about something they like, something they've been working on, a solution they recently discovered, or bring up a problem they've been having. This would definitely fit the bill.

This month's meeting topic is brilliant. I've been a php hobbyist for a while now and these meetings are about 80% over my head and the 20% I do understand blows my mind and makes me a better PHP developer. I've been sitting on a beginner project for a while and I've been struggling with making an API out of my php classes.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it (holiday travel). Definitely keep a list of the books everyone recommends. And if there is any REST or API advice, please let me know.
