Swing Aggregation has that super Big Band sound for a small band price ($12)... nice strong horn section, playing those old swinging big band favourites (Count Basie, etc). Beginner swing dance lesson is included in the price.  The lesson starts at 7pm, and Dave Guiney's "little big band" starts playing at 8pm. Good menu at the Lux, nice decor & ambiance, and they clear away a bunch of the tables on the floor to make way for a bigger dance area.

Musicians: Dave Guiney on bass; Derry Byrne on trumpet; Rod Murray, trombone; Chris Startup on tenor and baritone sax; Dave Say, alto sax; Buff Allen on drums and Bill Sample on piano.

There is a guest vocalist at every event; previous performers have included Steve Maddock, Debbie Duncan, Andrea "SUPER"stein and Don Stewart.

We have a standing arrangement with the Lux Lounge that eight seats will be reserved for Meetup  members.  First eight to show get first dibs on those chairs.  Or you might want to reserve your own table by contacting

All participants at our Meet Up table got to dance a lot. Music was upbeat to get us in the dancing mood yet not too fast for us to try out the newly acquired swing moves from the beginner's lesson. Meet Up members made new friends and felt comfortable dancing with folks at other tables.

Faranak and I just started the East Coast Swing dance lessons at the Scotia Bank Dance Studio on Davie. It appears to be well run and instructed. I am sure that we will actually learn something, this time :-)

"Atomic Radio (in addition to running Jump & Swing) is starting a Swing Dance school next week. It is called Port-O-Swing Vancouver and is modeled and based on Port-O-Swing Quebec, which is a dance school that has been running successfully for 13 years.

The classes start Thursday, April 3, 2014 and run for 10 weeks.

This is a beginner class, so no experience is necessary. The class time is 8:30 - 9:45 PM and the classes take place at the Scotia Bank Dance Center at 677 Davie Street, Vancouver.

The regular fee is $170 per person for all 10 classes; but we would be happy to offer the classes to your members for $140 per person, or, if your members sign up in couples (Lead/Follow) then we can offer the classes for $120 per person.

Space is limited, and all the details and registration information can be found at www.portoswingvancouver.com

Rob of Atomic Radio said that various Meetup members who have been turning up for these Jump & Swing Sundays have been asking about learning to swing dance, and has arranged for a special Meetup price for a package of lessons.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
