Brooklyn Half Marathon Preview

This will be a preview of the Brooklyn Half Marathon course.  We'll start at the normal meetup spot (the Grand Army Plaza entrance to the park), jog to the start of the race, and do a preview of the run out to Coney Island.  Bring a Metrocard so you can get back!

I'd really love to do this but I've got way too many friggin' apartments to see this weekend. Tear it up, Whippets!

Can't make it anymore. My post injury pace is so slow right now. I'd never make it back home in time for something I have going on in the afternoon.

Actually, I won't be able to print out maps since I'll be running home and am already carrying too much. Is anyone free to print maps out? If not, it should be ok - I think we have plenty of people pacing that ran the course last year.

Looks like we have some good pace leaders between 8:00 and 9:00. I'll print out a few copies of the course map as well. I'll probably do 7:30 pace.

I am looking at a 8:00 to 8:30 pace, but starting earlier doesn't sound great

We need a few volunteers to lead pace groups. If you did the course last year or are comfortable memorizing the course, please post the pace at which you'd be willing to lead below. Thanks!

Anyone, particularly anyone looking to run about a 8min/mi pace on Saturday, interested in starting this a little earlier? I have another commitment later in the day :-/

Weekend runs are always defined by the run leaders and the distance may vary according to their plans. That said, here are some recommended workouts for the weekend of May 4-5...

Good luck this weekend, NEW JERSEY MARATHONERS!

BROOKLYN HALF competitors: 13-16M at progression run pace

EVERYONE ELSE, runners building a base or maintaining their current fitness level: 7-12M @ long run pace

Long run pace is slightly faster than easy, but is still 45-60 seconds/mile slower than marathon goal pace (or your estimated goal pace if you were training for a marathon). A progression run starts at long run pace for the first half of the distance, then gradually speeds up (a little bit every mile or 10 minutes) to reach a top speed of half-marathon pace -- but finish with one easy mile.
