BROOKLYN HALF competitors: 13-16M at progression run pace
EVERYONE ELSE, runners building a base or maintaining their current fitness level: 7-12M @ long run pace
Long run pace is slightly faster than easy, but is still 45-60 seconds/mile slower than marathon goal pace (or your estimated goal pace if you were training for a marathon). A progression run starts at long run pace for the first half of the distance, then gradually speeds up (a little bit every mile or 10 minutes) to reach a top speed of half-marathon pace -- but finish with one easy mile.
