Startup Engineering (Coursera)

Evolve the engineering skills needed to build a technology startup from the ground up with this free online Stanford class and our weekly local workshop.

Startup Engineering bridges the gap between academic computer science and production software engineering. Fast-paced introduction to key tools and techniques (command line, dotfiles, text editor, distributed version control, debugging, testing, documentation, reading code, deployments), featuring guest appearances by senior engineers from successful startups and large-scale academic projects.

Over the course of the class, students will build a command line application, expose it as a web service, and then link other students' applications and services together to build an HTML5 mobile app. General principles are illustrated through modern Javascript and the latest web technologies, including Node, Backbone, Coffeescript, Bootstrap, Git, and Github.

The class started last week, but there's still plenty of time to enroll and catch up. The first homework is due Wednesday July 3.

I followed the lessons and it is just a great course. Cannot wait for more. I want to share a really nice video course (much shorter, I did in few hours) just on javascript: http://go.codeschool.com/zKDX2g (if you follow the link you get 2 free day to try and I get 2, too)

    Is anybody familiar with coffeescript?

If you haven't already set up the development environment for the course, you can use these steps to get started with accounts on AWS, github, heroku etc:

There is a Hack for Good hackathon this weekend in the same building as the Startup Engineering workshop. It's a great complement to the Startup Engineering workshop, providing a chance to practice new skills with others. Sign up here: http://www.meetup.com/dashmash/...

Hi all, there is another meetup for the same online class within the San Diego Coursera Community meetup page, is it possible to merge or link these 2 meetups together?
