Sydney Data Miners, Web Miners and Complingers..

Hey thanks to everyone who braved the weather last Tuesday night to make the meetup. It was quite a different vibe with us all round in a circle in the bowels of the Agincourt. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and there was lots of interesting conversation to be had.

Dylan had a good suggestion I thought: to list on the discussion groups the sites that were mentioned. So many great URLs are flung around and they're impossible to remember, so here's a few I recollect:

Alex mentioned Amazon's compute cloud for mass use of virtual CPU time: http://www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html?node=201590011

I mentioned http://20q.net - the classic AI game.

I would have mentioned http://moodviews.com/ at some point - mapping word frequencies to mood based on livejournal articles.

If I remember rightly it was Mike who mentioned http://springwise.com - new business idea blog.

What others where there? If we could continue this in the message boards http://web.meetup.com/36/messages/boards/ - that'd be good.

Hope to see a good diverse crowd at the next meetup. If anyone would like to present, let me know, and we can have a presentation section in the beginning.

Cheers

Luke
