March 6: BOD Meetup Report

We unboxed my new game, Mission to the Red Planet.

I'd actually played it before, but never got the rules quite fixed in my mind. In this game about travel to Mars, players first choose from one of the nine roles in their hand; each role determines both turn order and action. They place astronauts on spaceships bound for Mars, and, after everyone has done their action, the ships land on different territories of Mars.

There are ten rounds, but scoring only occurs in rounds 5, 8, and 10. The player with the largest number of astronauts in a territory scores the points for that region, making majority control the primary mechanic of the game. Kay did extremely well throughout, but unbeknownst to everyone else, Ben quietly and craftily snatched up terrain to win the game. Great job!
