NatGeo Live: The Call of Everest

Have you always been fascinated by Everest? Well come out for a night in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first Americans to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The new National Geographic book "The Call of Everest" looks not just at the heroic events of 50 years ago, but at Everest’s present and future. The presentation will include climber Conrad Anker, who led Nat Geo’s commemorative expedition to Everest last spring, and naturalist Alton Beyers, writer Mark Jenkins, and athlete Emily Harrington, who also contributed to the book.

The event starts at 7:30PM but with general admission it is advised to arrive early.

Grosvenor Auditorium @ National Geographic Live, 1600 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036

Tickets are $22. After RSVP'ing you must buy your own ticket for this event at

Thanks to everyone that made it out last night!!! It was a wonderful event and very well done. The four speakers gave details that made their everest experiences come to life. I particularly enjoying hearing about the environmental efforts going on and how they are working with the Sherpas to manage waste with the over 100,000 people (tourists and Sherpas) who climb Everest each year (WOW!). And thanks to Kirsten, Matt, Araceli for the follow-on discussions while we enjoyed some yummy food at Bar Code.

Many thanks for saving me an awesome seat just a few rows from the podium. I really enjoyed listening to all four speakers. Totally worth the drive up from Fredericksburg.

Glad you could make it and great question about any conflicts with the westerns and Sherpas. I also found this interesting blog on the incident. http://www.alanarnett...

A word to those looking for tickets... In the past Nat Geo has handed out tickets that get turned back before the show. The way to take a shot at that is to wait on the bench along the wall near the ticket window, arriving an hour ahead to get in line. At events in the past, I have also had people give away or sell extra tickets they have, either outside in the courtyard or in line waiting for the program to start. Perhaps a long shot, but if you are interested and can spare the time, it might be worth it.
