An Evening Film & More! Journey of 2,000 Miles: the Appalachian Trail

  • Oct 10, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is hosting it's 2013 Member Drive in DC on Thursday October 10, 2013 from 8:00-10:30p.m at the Avalon Theatre in DC.

This evening we will watch the film "Appalachian Impression", which is an epic story about hiking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Produced by Flagler Films the program takes you on a six-month, 2,180-mile journey along the most famous long-distance hiking trail in the world. Along the way, you'll meet hikers who have embarked on this trek, carrying everything they need on their backs. You'll hear their stories, and experience the thrills and challenges of daily life on the Trail. The program covers all fourteen states, the changing of the seasons, footwear, food, shelters, volunteer trail crews, and Leave No Trace Ethics.

The Guest Speaker at the event will be Michelle Pugh, Thru-hiker and author of Love at First Hike: A Memoir about Love & Triumph on the Appalachian Trail

Michelle Pugh was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but grew up mainly in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. She moved to Greenville, South Carolina, to attend Furman University, where she earned a degree in philosophy. After college, she hiked the Appalachian Trail, which was the inspiration for her book, Love at First Hike. Michelle has lived in five states since college, but has now settled in Simpsonville, South Carolina, where she works as an Emergency Medical Technician. When she is not working she enjoys hiking, camping, reading, cooking, and quilting.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear real stories from the people that have hiked the 2,180-mile Trail as well as those who volunteer to protect and maintain it. Prizes will also be awarded throughout the event such as water bottles, hats, and an ATC ENO Hammock.

Other reasons why you may want to join us this evening:

1.Watch the film: Appalachian Impressions on the big screen!

2.Hear amazing stories of the men and women who volunteer on the Trail

3.Interact with a 2,000 Miler

Its wonderful that there is so much interest in this event! Yah for all of you that are interested!!!
Please reply to this post if you are going to head straight there or if you are interested in HH gathering at Clyges of Chevy Chase before hand. I am thinking its best to get there to get seats etc as this going to be a very popular event so there will be a short window for HH. And meeting/seating together may be a challenge without your feedback.

Been busy and only looked at this today! Doubt I'll make Clyde's, but looking forward to seeing people I haven't seen in ages, and meeting new people. :-)

I am going to leave it up to the group, if you want to go to Clydes of Chevy Chase before the event. There appears to only be a couple takers and some will be a game time decision from the sound of it. And if you are all feeling up to a post-film drink I would recommend going back to Clydes of Chevy Chase.
