Time for our annual frozen waterfall tour of these two beautiful canyons with all their wonderful waterfalls! Join us for one of our classic Winter hikes in Shenandoah National Park!
Since this trip is so popular, winter time allows us to at least get a parking spot! These pictures are from the last couple Winters' hikes to let you know what you could be in for! Heavy rain/snow or if theparking lot/roads are not plowed or closed will cancel the trip.
This is a strenuous hike with over 2450' gain in elevation over about 8 miles total length, with an optional 1.5 mile out and back up to Hawksbill summit, the highest peak in SNP.
We'll split up into smaller groups once we arrive at the trailhead. Some will do the loop clockwise starting with Cedar Run while others will go counterclockwise starting with White Oak Canyon.
Please bring a lunch, snacks, plenty of water, and dress in layers to keep yourself warm and dry, including not getting so hot you sweat a lot, which inexperienced winter backpackers tend to not understand...since it's winter! So let's get out mid-winter to enjoy a great hike, so mark this one on the calendar early!
