Price: $2.00/per person

VERY IMPORTANT: THIS IS A HEAVY BACKCOUNTRY BACKPAKING TRIP - NOT SUITABLE FOR INEXPERIENCE PEOPLE.
The main idea of this trip is to complete the 27 mile loop which it will be heavy because of the distance of the same, right know there is some snow on the trail but also there is big patches of ice all over the same that will make this trip a challenge for our pace to keep + the weight of our backpacks over our shoulders.
The Wild Oak Trail forms a 25.6-mile loop mostly following ridge tops, beginning at the headwaters of the North River in Augusta County, Virginia.
Elevations along the trail vary, from a low of 1,600 feet where the trail begins at North River Gap, to a high point of 4,351 feet on Little Bald Knob.
We will star walking counterclockwise as soon we get there, mid-night backpack for around 3/4 hours, will try to cover at least 5 miles. Next day we HAVE TO cover 9-10 miles as the same next day. Because the topography and mostly walk along the ridge I can say that it will be good trip whit a lot to see.
Because of distance and elevation gain but mostly depending on weather/snow it will be a really strenuous backpacking trip so light/ultra light weight backpack is encourage
A Plan "B" will be set to follow if snow is more than 2 feet accumulation.
Traction devise are suggested to be use (spikes or mini-crampons)
More details coming soon!!
As you come down from Little Bald Knob you will come to a sign that tells you that if you turn to the right there is "No River Crossing", go that way it means there is a bridge! After you go up Hankey Mountain there are a lot of nice campsites, but again NO WATER. Other than that, this is NOT a ridgeline hike it is a LOT of steep uphill climbs and, of course downhills to match. A very tough trail.
@ Peter - Thanks for the info.
And that is exactly why I say it will not be like to take the candy out the hands of a toddler.
@ Darwin, heck if we are coming at any time on Sunday, I'm on it! I love challenges, but it will be my first time with the group so I believe more details will come for the hike? otherwise, count me in.
Nice rugged landscape in a new wilderness area guys...driven through the area many times, it will be tough and fun!
I did this trip solo back in May of 2004, but clockwise. I really enjoyed it then. Camped at Camp Todd the first night, 2nd night near a wildlife clearing at about the 18 mile mark. That series of wildlife clearings are probably in the range of where you are looking to get to your first night. Sounds like a fun trip.
Thanks Harry & welcome to the group...you should join them!

I did this with Dave, Lucas and Joffrey as a day hike this weekend (NOT something I would recomend!) There is a nice campsite about 6.5 miles into the hike as you approach the summit of Little Bald Knob (no water, open field). The first water you can depend on is at Camp Todd (about 9.5 miles from start).
