Grails "Goto" Plugins

Grails 2.0 was officially released in December and it is a significant milestone for the Groovy-based web framework. In light of this, DC Groovy will begin a series of meetings geared towards Grails, as we all learn how to take advantage of the latest features.

The first meeting in the Grails series will feature a talk by DC Groovy member and Grails veteran, Eric Sword, entitled Grails Goto Plugins. This presentation will cover how to start a new project with Grails and show which plugins to include before writing a single line of code. Eric will demonstrate how the plugins work and walk us through a sample Grails application.

Eric Sword doesn't always follow the crowd -- in 1995, he moved from Silicon Valley to the DC area to join a small software product company. Despite having a masters in human-computer interaction, Eric soon realized that his visual-aesthetic aptitude went only as far wearing birkenstocks with white socks. After rising to role of VP of Engineering, his inner geek re-asserted himself, and he has been a software architect and "code hound" since 2005.

Eric has primarily written backend software including, file-transfer and workflow products, real-time collaboration systems, information extraction frameworks, and geospatial-alerting software. He currently works with Java, Groovy (including Grails), and Javascript, though he occasionally suffers from PTSD caused by tracking down unlocked handles in MacBug assembly on Mac OS 7.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
