Java show-and-tell, Web Database Apps

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • Topics for the first session are listed below.
    1. Show-and-tell of NetBeans and Eclipse (30 minutes each)
    2. How do different people do typical database apps (what toolkits, how do they do CRUD, etc.)
    3. How do different people do typical web-based database apps, what are the options (app servers, scalability, factors to consider, implementation experiences, etc.)

RSVP or post a comment if you are interested in (1) attending, or (2) doing a presentation (or both) on these topics. (You can also email me (Masoud) offline).

Also post a list of topics you can present and a list of things you would like to learn for the next sessions.

General Format for the show-and-tell sessions:
Get with other Java developers and exchange ideas and experiences, and have quick demos of different technologies, tools, and personal "real" experiences (the low-down on what a particular tool does, how someone uses it, etc.). Good networking opportunity, opportunity to show and improve presentation skills, and to learn things you could use right away.

Bring your laptops, your tools, be prepared to show how to use something. Prepare a presentation beforehand.

You can also encouraged to talk about a project you are working on or a project you worked on before, because how you do the project, what tools you use, and what you learned will not only benefit everyone, it will also benefit the person making the presentation (because preparing a presentation makes them would know it better).

Gray, I don't know if people know to look here, any way we can announce it so everyone will know to see it and decide if they are interested?

This seems like a good idea. Sounds similar to a lightning talks night. If we can get five or so people to step up to present some short talks based upon Masoud's idea, I'll schedule it.
