Hello!
Hope everyone is enjoying the warm & sunny weather!
Do you have a digital project in the works?
Could you use some feedback? some advice?
Have you been curious what your DCMM friends are working on?
Do you have an idea for a project but need some help getting it off the ground?
Join us Wednesday, April 28th, for DCMM's first media mashup of the year where media makers of all stripes -- professional, amateur, enthusiasts -- come together to share their projects, tips, tricks, & tools. We're planning a casual, collaborative media mashup where we'll create content on the spot & learn as we go. Bring your ideas, laptops, video cams, web cams, audio tech, favorite editing platforms, all of it. People can share projects, create onsite with their own tech, brainstorm with others, & simply observe (that "observe" option is offered for the digitally shy or digitally curious who want to look over shoulders & just eat cookies).
So please join us! ...with one question:
Would you share your project? We hope so! You're invited to announce & discuss projects with the group beforehand through the Ideas section (here) on the meetup site. We'll also welcome anyone & everyone to share their projects during the mashup. Jill will be bringing 2 Flip cams to cut video interviews on site and upload for kicks.
A general timeline for the evening:
6:30 - 6:45: arrival/meet-&-greet
6:45 - 7:00: welcome/intros (people & projects)
7:00 - 7:45: work on projects, mix-&-mingle
7:45 - 7:55pm: recap of projects & progress made
8:00pm: head out to local spots for dinner, drinks & good times
Till then, keep on makin' media -
Kelli Shewmaker and Jill Foster, DCMM co-organizers
Hoping to pitch a project for Digital Capital Week this June: creating a virtual tour of the history of NoMa.
I am developing a "talking head" vodcast for Goddard Space Flight Center. Scientists are filmed in their offices/labs, answering 3 questions about them and their work. I have a very rough piece I edited myself--I am very new to FCP7--and could use some feedback.
I love the Major Tom image, would like to see (and comment) on that! curious who the audiences are.
interested in media mash for communications flow. What do you use to prevent excessive typing and clicking? What are your favs and your trials/triumphs? I hope to apply to my farming/education endeavors and be of better service to Crisis Commons.
I am developing a made for Web comedy series entitled "White Fight".
It is a satire on the whole Teaparty and the 'Obama is going to put all white people in FEMA concentration camp' movement. I was hoping to have some footage we shot over the weekend; but we ran into some tech issues with some of the footage. Looking for people to help me out: Actors, Video people, Wardrobe...etc..etc
I'm preparing a presentation for #DCWeek addressing Social Media for nontraditional users. I need some help putting parameters around this - both presentation and concept. It's more of a teaching session for new media users. In order to better my marketing, how do I define nontraditional, what social media do I expose participants to, what should they walk away with? Where do I market? How do I not get overwhelmed?
Wish I could join - next time. Have fun! Hoping to get feedback on http://fusedc.org
, a volunteer-powered resource website for DC's social justice organizations. Look forward to connecting at the next meeting.

This was a great session. Although we didn't discuss my #SMNTU Social Media for Non-Traditional Users seminar for #DCWeek, (http://wp.me/pOERS-1a
) I enjoyed discussing the graffiti mapping project too.
All the ideas look fantastic. Aghhhh, missed being there so much. Thx for sharing the ideas and feedback.
