Have a dashboard you've been working on, but not sure where to go from here? Learned a technique you're really excited about, or found a tool you think is useful? Consider presenting! It's a great way to get feedback and get your name out to the community. Anyone who participates will earn a chance at the $25 Amazon gift card drawn each session. Presentations should be 5 to 10 minutes. Drop me a note if interested, or just come prepared on the 20th.
We'll be back at the Washington Post this week, right in the heart of downtown DC. As before, the first hour of this meetup will be devoted to helping newcomers learn to use Tableau through presentations and hands-on activities. If you consider yourself more on the advanced side, feel free to come around 2:00 for the start of the general session, which will cover more advanced topics.
Here's a tentative schedule.
1:00 Getting Started with Tableau (for those new to the tool)
* What is Tableau?
* Which version is right for me?
* Installing and connecting to data
* Constructing your first dashboard
2:00 Introduction & announcements (whole group)
2:15 Community forum -- Show what you've been working on
3:00 Tips and tricks (potential topics below)
* Data blending (multiple data sources on one graph)
* Conditionally displaying logos/images
* Creating interactive flow diagrams
* Calendars for visualization & filtering
Please bring a laptop with a Windows operating system with you to this meetup. You can find links to trial and free versions of Tableau here: http://www.meetup.com/dc-tableau-workshop/pages/Helpful_Links/
All skill levels welcome!
