What's New in Lift 3

At November's meetup, David Pollak, Lift's founder, discusses some of the new features in Lift 3 including Streaming Promises (awesome for AngularJS work), Client-side Actors (send a message to a server-side Actor and magically it invokes a function in the browser and vice versa), asynchronous REST, and some of the enhancements to Lift's templating (support for arbitrary tags as well as data- attributes). More importantly, David will spend a bunch of time ranting about how HTML-generating web frameworks are dead (they just don't know it) and other fun topics.

Food and drinks will be provided.

Approximate schedule:

6:30 - Doors open
7:00 - General intro
7:05 - What's New in Lift 3
8:00 - Social hour

David Pollak founded the Lift web framework project almost 7 years ago and continues to be an active committer and member of the Lift community. David also dabbles in Clojure, Haskell, Java (when paid outrageous sums of money), and diplomacy. David lives in San Francisco with his dog Archer and his kids. David wrote Beginning Scala and tons of blog posts.

Getting here

Audax Health is located in the Georgetown waterfront building:

3000 K St. NW, Sixth Floor
Washington, DC 20007

Metro - We are about a 15 minute walk from the Foggy Bottom metro stop on the Blue and Orange line

Parking - Our building has a parking garage (http://en.parkopedia.com/parking/underground/washington_harbour_center/20007/washington/) The entrance is on the river side of K street (under Whitehurst Freeway), between Thomas Jefferson St. and 30th St. It's a flat $10 after 4PM.

Once you've parked or have arrived at the Washington Harbor complex, our building is the one on the left if you are looking towards the river. The entrance is at street level, to the left of the smaller fountain (if you see Tony & Joes or Sequoia, go up the stairs away from the river and turn right). The doors are locked but we will have someone at the front desk from 6:30 until 8, so just knock.

Here is a link to a map with the parking garage entrance and our building entrance marked:

Please RSVP if you plan on attending. Thanks!

Hey Ben. I appreciate the nudge. I want to see the video of this talk too!

One obstacle was that we haven't had a good place to post videos, so I created a youtube channel and playlist for us. I'll work with Sam to post the videos that we have later this week.

Hey Ben, we haven't forgotten about you!

Sam has been pretty busy, so we haven't been able to upload the talk by David Pollack. We are working on uploading all the talks that we have recorded (more to come on this shortly, I'm sure).

    Thanks for checking in.

The talk will be recorded. Audax Health is looking into a place to host the videos and I can update this meetup event once I have a link to the talk. Please check in on this in a couple days and ping me if I haven't posted it.
