For those who posted about required skill level for Via Ferrata:

This is a low skill level activity. If you can climb a ladder you can do the Via Ferrata. I've taken youth groups up there several times in the past 5 years and it really gives you a big mountain climbing experience without needing any climbing skill. As for the fear of heights. we've taken many climbers up who said that they never thought they would be able to do it but were easily able to over come the fear. it starts in a wooded area so your first accent isn't very scary and doesn't feel too high. This is just long enough to get you comfortable with the climbing and the gear.

I highly recommend this activity. It's an amazing climb and the views are fabulous. The suspension bridge give some excellent views. Bring a camera!

I haven't done the Zip lines, it was newly installed the last time I was up there and I just haven't gotten a chance to get up there to try it. Have Fun!

Hi Marites, Just saw that weather looks rainy on Sunday so I will have to back out. I am sorry. No Spring here yet.

      March 27, 2013

    • Carmen

I hope to go again once it is at least not raining. I still like the idea. Will go to Sugarloaf on Sat. just for the day since it isn't raining then. Do take care. Let me know if you are interested in going to Sugarloaf Mtn.

Okay so I just called Nelson Rock and booked a guest room so let me know if anyone wants to bunk with me. I also found out some other information:

    1) They only have (4) guests houses left for fri & sat night
    2) The Via Ferrata on Saturday only has a few spots left, but for sunday it is wide open
    3) Only the Canopy Tour on sunday is open, but if we can get a group of 8pp for saturday they would add an afternoon tour for us

Looking forward to the trip. Please let me know if anyone wants to carpool with me from Arlington, VA. I can leave as early as 2pm and would like to get their before it gets dark out.

Matires, would you be able to meet me at the vienna metro to carpool up? Also, did you want to stay in the guest house I have reserved for friday & saturday nights?

      March 19, 2013

    • Stacey

I just wanted to let you know that something came up and I will no longer be able to go on the North Fork Valley Trip so have canceled my reservation for the guest room. Sorry about that but hopefully you can find someene else to bunk with. Have a great time and I look forward to hearing all about it.

Fell too far behind at work so I need to go in that weekend.

Well this is only 2 weeks away now so I guess time is running out to finalize plans. I am thinking of a guest room (hopefully split four ways), the Via Ferrata on Saturday to challenge my fear of heights, and the canopy tour on Sunday before heading home in the early afternoon. Does this fit in with anybody else's plans? Has anybody already made a guest room reservation for 4 adults with slots not yet spoken for?

    March 15, 2013

  • Kim N.

I am tempted to do the Via Ferrata but don't know what skill level is needed or if my fear of heights would get the best of me. So Sunday doing the Canopy tour in the morning sounds good. Are the room options here as nice as the one's at Yokum's Vacationland that is 14 minutes away? I want us all to stay together but I want a bit of comfort - and a full kitchen and place with hot tub and added charm would be nice. Are you all locked in already at the Nelson guest rooms?

I see that we have to pick times. Are we all just picking whatever we want to do for whatever time we can schedule it or are we trying to get specific times and go together? I tried for the canopy tour on sat and it was only available for Sunday. Anyone else going to do the canopy on Sunday from[masked] p? I figured I can just hike on Sat then since I've done the Via Ferrata before and they aren't doing the night hikes yet.

    March 11, 2013

    • Stacey

Elsa, I want to do the canopy tour as well so would sign up for the sunday session. I'm still deciding on via ferrata as I've done it before so may just hike or rock climb on saturday

  • Elsa

Disregard my post about rooms without electricity. Since I have been there they have built rooms with.

    March 11, 2013

  • Elsa

I've done the Via Ferrata here before and it was awesome. I may want to try the canopy tour though. I just thought I'd let others know how fun it was and the staff there is great. Also, just so you know, I don't believe the sites there have electricity, but I could be wrong about that. Just don't want anyone to be surprised.

Is there anyone from Hampton Roads area that would want to car pool? I would also like to split a room. I only plan on staying Friday, maybe Saturday night! Thanks!

Hello this is my first time to join in the group .. Yes I prefer to stay 1 or 2 nights and prefer to split the cost of the room and car pooling

    March 4, 2013

  • Elizabeth

Is everyone planning on three nights? Interested, but would prefer a 1-2 night stay. Let me know if you are interested in carpooling!

    March 2, 2013

    • David F.

I'd prefer a two night stay too as my family may be getting together for Easter. I'm up for sharing a room up to four ways.

      March 3, 2013

    • Jack

I think two nights is what most people will do. Friday and Saturday.

      March 4, 2013

  • Patrice W.

Is it $70 for the activities and then an additional $80 for rooms or does the original costs include everything?

    March 4, 2013

    • Jack

Yes, housing, activities, and travel are all separate costs.

      March 4, 2013

  • Marites L.

    See you

Sounds like a great trip! How would the reservations be handled? This would be my first meet up with this group.

    • Jack

Need to contact them to figure out how bookings are handled.

      January 30, 2013

  • Barbara T.

Would I be able to bring my two boys, ages 13 and 8? If so, are there age/height restrictions on any of the activities?

    January 30, 2013

    • Jack

You'll need to check the website about activity restrictions.

This is a road trip in the planning. The idea is to return to WV and spend a day on the Canopy Tour and the second day on Via Ferrata.
