EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK (November 2014)

  • November 11, 2014 · 7:00 AM

***THIS IS A JOINT MEETUP WITH YOUNG ADVENTURERS.***

RSVP now open. Deposit is due by JULY 31, 2014.

Notes from the 5/18 Meeting:

Hi, all. We had a meeting last night and just a few things that were discussed--
1. Prep for this trip would require staying active and doing cardio. Also, hiking prior to the trip would be beneficial with a significant elevation gain of at least 2500 feet or more. 2. Other than trip cost, you pay for your international flight and purchase an emergency medical and evacuation insurance. You can easily google this and get a list of insurance providers. The cost can range from $25 and up.
3. I'll be sending out the gear list to paid attendees at some point but keep in mind we are staying in teahouses.
5. Visa can be obtained upon arrival at the airport for US citizens.
6.Consider arriving a few days earlier if you can in case of jetlag.
7.Accommodate is shared (2 beds in a room) unless you want own room for extra fee.
8. Book your trip by July 31. Keep in mind tho that there is a local flight to be booked. So do not wait last minute to reserve as you risk not getting a flight.

9. Drinking water on the trail- please bring a filter/purifier and also the tablets for drinking water.  They are now strict on plastic bottle waste so we will have to do old school water filtering.

Who doesn't have Everest Base Camp trek on their list? Nepal is a wonderful trekking destination, no doubt, and the locals are some of the warmest people you'll ever meet.  November also happens to be the best time to do the Everest Base Camp trek with clear skies and perfect hiking temperature (not too hot, not too cold).

For this trek, we will not only see the base camp, but also, Gokyo Lakes, Kala Pattar and Cho La Pass. This a GUIDED trek with stays at teahouses for a total of 18 days. The highest point is almost 18,000 feet.

NOTE: THIS IS A STRENUOUS HIKE.  YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING A DETERMINATION AS TO WHETHER YOU'RE FIT FOR THIS TREK.  THIS IS AT HIGH ALTITUDE WITH SIGNIFICANT ELEVATION GAIN.  HAVING SAID THAT, YOU HAVE AMPLE TIME TO TRAIN.

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS: You are responsible for booking your own flight.  It's never too early to start looking.  You must be in Kathmandu no later than November 10, 2014 or even sooner if you wish to get over the jetlag.  It's also advisable to have a few days extra at the end in case there are issues with flights from Lukla.  Hotel costs pre- or post-trek are separate costs apart from the tour price. However, Kathmandu is a host to so many hostels.  We can either stay at the same hotel chosen by the tour agency or book a few nights in another place.

VISA: Visa cost is excluded from the tour price. For U.S. citizens, a 30 day visa can be obtained upon entry at the Int'l airport in Kathmandu and costs $40.  If you're non-U.S. citizen, please make sure you are aware of the visa requirements as per your nationality.

GEAR LIST: This will be provided to confirmed attendees.

Sorely tempted having been to Kala Pattar but not Gokyo Ri etc. The Nepali people are exceptional. The flights in and out of Lukla are unforgettable (if survived). Very good price. Are sleeping bags to be used in a tent or a tea house?
