Beach camping on Assateague Island, in the Maryland State Park Campground. Columbus day weekend, Oct [masked] (Fri-Mon). Check in to the campground anytime after 2pm Friday. We will plan to have a group dinner on Saturday night.
The campground office closes at 10pm. Is there someone who will definitely be there before 10pm Friday? I would like to be called and get the key-code for access to the campground. Can't enter the campground after 10pm without the code.

The MD state park has nice bath-house facilities, with hot water showers and real flush toilets (vs the primitive National park facilities - porta-potties and cold showers). Join the group as they head to the Beach for a Fall Campout on the Beach. See wild horses stroll thru the campsites and drive over to Ocean City which is just minutes away. You can even Rent Kayaks and take a bay-side tour or JUST RELAX...
$50/person for the entire long weekend. But if two people are able to share a car and share a tent, just reserve one slot and pay $50 for the two people. (Add in the comment field that you have two people.) No pets allowed. (The J-loop camping that allows pets seems to be fully booked.) They can allow three cars and three tents and six people per site. So the cars and tents are the limitation. (There is a parking overflow area if there are too many cars.) I organized the Assateague beach island campouts the last two years, with great success.

I went ahead and booked the sites for the Columbus Day weekend, Oct[masked], Friday - Monday: I-Loop, sites I101/I102/I103/I104/I105/I107. This is in the Maryland Assateague State Park, right by the beach, with nice bath-house facilities.
The event capacity is between 18 and 36 people (depending on how many folks are willing to share a tent). If people will RSVP to this event soon, I can add more sites while the State Park still has open capacity. The more the merrier...
Bring a tent (or share), sleeping bag, pad/air-mattress. The tent will need 15" (ok) or 18" (preferred) long stakes for the tents, to grip in the loose sand. (Or buy wooden dowels at the hardware store.) The normal little stakes won't work. (Maybe can use string to tie the tents to the nearby shrubs.) Bring firewood, charcoal, lighter-fluid. Stove/cooking-equipment if you want to cook or make coffee in morning. Bring bug-spray. Sun lotion. Umbrella, chair, blanket, etc. Flashlight. Cooler, food, beverage. Optional but nice: Screen-tent to put over the picnic table, to keep bugs away. Lantern. Fly-swatter.
It is essential that you do not leave food out (even in coolers) where the ponies can get them. Don't leave food in the tents, or the ponies will tear the tent to get to it. Pack food in the car overnight and when you are away from the site. The ponies look sweet/cute, but they can bite/kick, so stay away from them.
8 MILES SOUTH OF OCEAN CITY MD, AND MAY BE REACHED VIA MD RT 50 TO MD RT 611.
Cross the bridge over to the island. Turn at the second right turn. (The first right turn is a long drive to the National Park. We are camping in the MD state park.)
You don't have to stay for the Monday Columbus Day. You can attend just part of the Friday-Monday period. You don't need to stay for the whole time. We will save room for you if you arrive late.
Only register on this meetup if you are camping with us. Yes you are welcome to come by and do day-visits w/o meetup-charge, in which case you shouldn't rsvp to the full event.
