Generation X/Y Overnight Whitewater Rafting Trip Aug 24-25

August will be a very HOT month and this is the perfect adventure to COOL OFF! The Lower Youghegheny River features about 8 miles of rapids ranging from Class I to Class IV during a 5-6 hour trip. Exciting enough for the beginner - not too boring for the experienced rafter. We will be leaving the DC area by carpool for Ohiopyle during early rush hour, stopping for dinner in Hagerstown, Md. and continuing on to arrive at the Ohiopyle campground at about 10pm. We will camp out and arise to hit the river about 0800am, ride the rapids for about 5-6 hours (with lunch) and be back at Ohiopyle about 3pm. You could then choose to go hiking, mountain biking, visit Frank Lloyd Wright's House "Falling Water" or just go back early. "Falling Water" has a guided tour and requires advance reservations. Email me if you want to go.

Athough there is no absolute cutoff date, typically these trips are "full" two weeks prior or by August 10 in this case.

Leaving DC: about 4pm (exact departure point to be announced later) Arriving in Ohiopyle: about 10pm. Conclude rafting: about 3pm

Cost: This is a Washington Ski Club trip

Lower Yough Prices -$88 for SCWDC members, $95 non-members,

Middle Yough Prices -$62 for adult SCWDC members, $69 adult non-members, $55 for youth members, $62 youth non-members. The Middle Yough is a "float trip" designed for parents with children, not for fun-loving adult rafters.

Both include campground fees, rafting and Pa boating fees, lunch on the river and drinks/snacks.

Does not include: carpool expenses, dinner and breakfast, tent and mattress, additional activity fees such as "Falling Water" admission.

Checks to be made out to 'SCWDC' and mail to Greg Miklasiewicz, 4814 Nash Dr, Fairfax, Va, 22032. Please email me if you are sending a check.

I have taken down the Paypal link because this trip is closed to new RSVP's. There may be slots if there are cancellations. Email me prior to signing up.

The organizer, Ski Guy, wasn't the most organized. For some reason he couldn't get people's email addys correct to send out the information (one woman almost didn't get the email and thought the trip wasn't going on as planned), the group was late arriving at the rafting check-in since Ski Guy brought us to a check-in point that the outfitter hasn't used since 2001, and Ski Guy even put the campsite in my name even though I wasn't the organizer for this trip. The group was under the illusion they would have time for a guided tour of Fallingwater after the rafting, but those tours fill up. Overall, the trip was fun and a success despite the leader's lack of organization.

Hey Greg, I'm sorry,.didn't mean to step on any toes. I know how hard it is to pull off these events,.esp on more than one website. If I have a decent experience (ie don't drown) I may want to go again in Oct! Sorry to cause any confusion. Kathy.

Kathy, I am running this for the Washington Ski Club, so I cannot bail or change the details. This trip is on 4 other websites, so I guess people will have choices. We are doing the Gauley in October. Not posted yet. ---Greg
