Joint Meetup with our Sister Group! Potluck and Games in Silver Spring

  • September 8, 2013 · 2:00 PM
  • Rodney's

Address and directions were sent on Thursday to those who signed up.  As people continue to sign up after directions are sent, I will strive to send info out to those individuals one by one, but your best bet is to sign up at least a few days before the event. - Bayard

Join us for fun as we join up with our partner in crime Randy, and the League of Extraordinary Gamers!

I am taking requests for games to bring to the meetup.  My collection is listed here:  http://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/bayard?own=1&subtype=boardgame&ff=1

Let me know which one you'd like to try!

You should also feel free to bring any games you enjoy.

Open gaming and pot luck food all day (starting 2 pm till late). This will be at the usual location on Eastern Avenue.  All types of games are welcome, bring your favorites.  Generally we start out with strategy games from 2:00 to 6:00 then play more social party type games.

Join us for pot luck food, games and fun in Silver Spring (walkable from the metro.)  Free parking available in a nearby public garage (Some on-street parking too - check posted signs. Note that the two sides of eastern Av have different rules.  Don't get ticketed!)

For those who have not been to Rodney's before, it's a co-op apartment building on Eastern Av in Silver Spring, Md.  There are lots of tables and chairs, there is a full kitchen, and the location is wheelchair accessible.  Please bring something edible or drinkable to share - note what you are bringing in the comments below, so we can have everything covered. Note that there is a propane grill on site.  We will have our donation bucket out for your donations which go to cover the cost of the meeting space and the meetup site fees.

Please help us out by cleaning up before you leave.  We need help with a little cleanup at the end of the night.

As my first official meet-up event, I don't think I could have done better. It was the idea of potluck and gaming that drew me, but I think it is the people and fun that will make me stay.

I was warmly received from everyone at the start, and with such a great welcome wagon, all nervousness was replaced with a pleasing comfort. (Rodney, you are the perfect host!) For a new boardgamer like myself, it was really nice to be able to break the ice with cooking and swapping recipes until I could settle into a game. When I did get into a game, I was really fortunate to be able to join a group of friendly girls with the lovely Renee as my ever-so-patient teacher. (I have her to thank for teaching me Settlers of Catan.)

Later, as the evening deepened, so did the fun. Our charming Bayard captivated about 10 of us for a variation of charades and improv. What a great way to get to know people...Everyone was so clever and funny! I had so much fun! I can't wait to meet up with this group again. :)

I have decided to bring my version of a tropical chicken salad (my attempt to savor the last of the season) and if I have time, a French Tian. (That's a sort of yellow squash, zucchini, and plum tomoto casserole.)

The food was really awesome this time around! Thanks to all who brought it, especially to those who took the time to cook special dishes for us!

I was going to bring a tropical chicken salad, but someone else is doing that... So maybe an assortment of cookies...

Well, I was going to bring a French Tian casserole, but that apparently is already on the way too. :-)

Bayard, can you bring Dungeon Lords? If others are interested in ruling a dungeon, I'll be arriving mid afternoon seeking darkness.

    Hi all...

I am actually part of your sister group, "League of Extraordinary Gamers," but am temporarily RSVPing in this meet-up over here to see who is bringing what food. My hope is to make something that compliments what you bring. However, I see that you have few slots left for members to join. If anyone sees this meet-up max out on it's available spots, please let me know and I will drop out right away. I will still be attending the this meet-up anyway since I have already RSVP'd for this in my League.

Thanks Bayard...I seem to be ok on my email settings. However, because I signed up for your group the same day as you sent out the address, I think I missed the email. Do you mind emailing me the address?
