Postprandial Party Games

  • November 23, 2012 · 8:00 PM

UPDATE:  I have sent the address and info to those who have RSVPed as attending.  Thanks for all the interest in this event, it's pretty overwhelming!  The event is limited to 12 due to space limitations at my house, but if people drop out I will backfill the guest list with the first people in line on the waiting list (in the order they signed up).

When you've had enough food and enough family, come play a few lighthearted funtime party games at my house near Gaithersburg.  I will send address and directions a few days before the event. Please bring snackables and adult beverages, and a $2 donation for our meetup collection bucket (these funds defray the cost of meetup.com's semi annual fee.)

Good times. Great people! I really enjoyed it. And that Bayard, he's a pistol packin' son-ova-gun!

Sounds like fun, but Gaithersburg is a fair hike from where I am (Annapolis). Hope to meet you all sometime...

Do you have events in NoVa as well?

      November 23, 2012

    • bayard

Yes, and I have just added Leigh as an assistant organizer representing VA. So there should be something happening soon...

The Games Club of Maryland (GCOM) meets every Friday from 7pm to very late at Tastee Diner (open 24 hours), 8601 Cameron St, Silver Spring, MD 20910. About 3 blocks from the Silver Spring Metro. Parking garage (free after 7 pm) across the street and a small parking lot behind the diner. The gamers have an entire section near the back to themselves, (on the left side), with plenty of room for more players. Over 20 people usually attend. The host, Steve Quade, could join this group as a co-organizer and list these sessions. Almost every game is taught to someone who has never played it.

Eric Engelmann is a co-organizer here and lists the weekly GCOM sessions at that Rockville United Church meeting room. They get over 15 people weekly, who don't appear on the RSVP list here. GCOM doesn't charge a fee or use RSVPs or require membership. So everyone here is always welcome. GCOM sessions for all locations: http://www.gamesclubofmd.org/Calendar.asp

It seems game nights are in demand! Anyone who wants to help me out by being a co-organizer, let me know! Being a co-organizer means you can post events on this meetup. Thanks!

I will be able to host often in a few months after I refurbish my kitchen. There's place here for 20 mingling people. I'd like to do a mingling party, where we can get to talk to one another on a one-on-one basis rather than sit in one group all together. Right now my kitchen is a disaster zone, I should really get some federal assistance from FEMA.

While Dan works on ensuring his property is not condemned (ha), let me clarify my comment. I meant I would have offered my place IF Bayard expressed wanting alternative. Otherwise, I wanted to support him as leader and as one who offered his home. Many wouldn't. I know this group does larger events at other times.

I may be willing to host on a one-time basis to start. Can probably hold 50 ppl or so, Burtonsville, MD 20866. Considered offering for Friday night alternative but now have plans then. BTW, I might want help to set up a little plus if anyone spills or drops food, help by unobtrusively trying to get spot out then. :-D

Do wait list folks want to meet up at another spot? I know Mark suggested a church in Rockville, but maybe something more Metro-friendly? I nominate DC Bread & Brew in Dupont,[masked]th St NW (between M St & N St); (202) 466-2676. I like the idea of meeting at 7.

I prefer the atmosphere at Bayard's place, it's much cozier than at a church. Better to have fewer people and a cozier environment than one big party at a bare place.

You could always move the location to share with the already-scheduled "Thoughtful games" Fri Nov 23, 7:00 PM. They have plenty of tables & chairs & room where they meet each week: Rockville United Church, 355 Linthicum Street, Rockville, MD.

Er... Maybe not... I see I'm last on a long waitlist... :-(

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
