Let's learn about Buddhism and meditation in the Thai tradition! Our last event at the Japanese Buddhist temple was so popular it filled up in less than a week, so we've arranged for another trip, this time to learn about the Thai Buddhist tradition.

Join us for a wonderful day learning about the basics of Buddhism. We will receive an introductory talk and lesson in meditation from a Thai monk named "Peace." Afterwards, we'll enjoy delicious Thai food in the temple while we have a Q & A session with Peace.

The event price includes lunch with a choice of entrees: Green Curry (Tofu or Chicken) or Pad Thai (Tofu or Chicken). Pictured below: Green Curry Tofu.

This EXCLUSIVE event includes:

Meetup group introductions and facilitation led by Nejla Routsong
Introductory talk on Buddhism
Meditation Class led by Thai monk

Schedule: We will meditate and learn about Buddhism from 12-1:30. Lunch will be served at 1:30 and we will have a Q&A during lunch.

How to Get There: Temple is located in Alexandria just off 495 on Telegraph Rd south. Click here for directions on Google Maps.

Carpool: I can bring up to 3 people with me from Huntington metro (Kings Highway exit), the first 3 people to mention it in the comments. Please feel free to arrange other carpools from other places in the comments below.

What to bring: Dress in WHITE or light-colored clothing that allows you to comfortably sit and stretch. Bring $10 donation for temple (suggested, but not required.)

All the Global Adventurers were great to meet, and all the people at the temple were so kind! The food was a little late (thanks to me) but it was delicious once it arrived...I'll be taking care to make sure that it's on time next time. We'll definitely be repeating similar events here.

This group is for people who enjoy events in the Washington DC area such as: international travel, embassy events, hiking, museums, festivals, kayaking, meditation, adventure travel, outdoor recreation, sports, spa visits, concerts, films, trips to the beach, ice skating, hot air balloon rides, and/or making friends while doing all of these things.

We attend festivals, local attractions, embassy events, do hiking, kayaking, yoga, biking, meditation, spa, read books, visit museums, academic lectures, films, music concerts, water parks, camping, trips to the beach, hot air balloon rides, international cuisine cooking classes, volunteering and even INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE TRAVEL!

Why - To meet each other, of course! The Washington DC area is full of awesome people who love having new experiences.

Unlike other Meetup groups, each one of our Meetups has an organized time to make sure that you meet the other members of the group. Learning about other cultures, countries and perspectives and HAVING FUN are also important reasons for attending events with DC Global Adventurers.

Our international trips are UNIQUE in that we truly learn about the culture at each of our destinations through cooking classes, listening to folktales, reading books, visiting the embassy in DC and - of course - by having events with locals at every one of our trips. We are true ADVENTURERS, NOT tourists!!

How do we offer such "awesome trips at reasonable prices", as one recent traveler put it?

We search the globe far and wide for the best adventure trips at the lowest prices. These usually begin with the big "group tours" that most people hate because they are so impersonal. Instead of just selling you tickets to these big group tours with 50-100 strangers from all over the US like some other Meetup groups do, we arrange a small, private tour just for our group.

Then we customize those barebones trips to add the most popular optional meals and activities that we think most people would want to do (like welcome dinners, cooking classes and dance lessons), so that you know up front how much your trip will cost! Next, we upgrade itineraries and accommodation to make them more comfortable and convenient for DC travelers. We also contact embassies to arrange private visits with cultural attaches and diplomats, arrange inclusive dinners at DC's top restaurants and even include a book help you learn more about the culture!

Finally, our real "secret" ingredient is bringing together adventurers just like you in the DC area who love to travel and make lasting friendships that start with amazing overseas adventure. Our trip organizer attends the trip with you every step of the way to ensure all travelers have a wonderful experience, and we even takes professional-quality photos of our travelers so that you can have fantastic memories and pictures to show your friends and family.
