What - This group is for making friends and meeting people in the Washington DC area who enjoy learning about other countries, cultures and perspectives. We attend festivals, local attractions, embassy events, do hiking, kayaking, yoga, biking, meditation, spa, read books, visit museums, academic lectures, films, music concerts, water parks, camping, trips to the beach, hot air balloon rides, international cuisine cooking classes, volunteering and even INTERNATIONAL ADVENTURE TRAVEL!
Who - We are global thinkers, hikers, foodies, scholars, music and art lovers.
Why - To meet each other, of course! The Washington DC area is full of awesome people who love having new experiences.
Unlike other Meetup groups, each one of our Meetups has an organized time to make sure that you meet the other members of the group. Learning about other cultures, countries and perspectives and HAVING FUN are also important reasons for attending events with DC Global Adventurers.
Our international trips are UNIQUE in that we truly learn about the culture at each of our destinations through cooking classes, listening to folktales, reading books, visiting the embassy in DC and - of course - by having events with locals at every one of our trips. We are true ADVENTURERS, NOT tourists!!
How do we offer such "awesome trips at reasonable prices", as one recent traveler put it?
We search the globe far and wide for the best adventure trips at the lowest prices. These usually begin with the big "group tours" that most people hate because they are so impersonal. Instead of just selling you tickets to these big group tours with 50-100 strangers from all over the US like some other Meetup groups do, we arrange a small, private tour just for our group.
Then we customize those barebones trips to add the most popular optional meals and activities that we think most people would want to do (like welcome dinners, cooking classes and dance lessons), so that you know up front how much your trip will cost! Next, we upgrade itineraries and accommodation to make them more comfortable and convenient for DC travelers. We also contact embassies to arrange private visits with cultural attaches and diplomats, arrange inclusive dinners at DC's top restaurants and even include a book help you learn more about the culture!
Finally, our real "secret" ingredient is bringing together adventurers just like you in the DC area who love to travel and make lasting friendships that start with amazing overseas adventure. Our trip organizer attends the trip with you every step of the way to ensure all travelers have a wonderful experience, and we even takes professional-quality photos of our travelers so that you can have fantastic memories and pictures to show your friends and family.
