any chance folks on here would want to set up some sort of weekly (saturdays? sundays?) meet-up to run some of the local rapids? i'm trying to get out on the river every weekend, but i don't have anyone to paddle with and would really prefer to paddle with a group (or at least a buddy).
if folks are interested, i think one way to do this would to have one person responsible for starting a thread each week for people who are free and interested to informally sign up and state their experience level, and then depending on the skill level of the interested group, we can choose a run that seems like it'd be fun and post where we're meeting so that anyone who wants to come can join. has this been done? this isn't a huge group, so i'm not sure if it would work or not. thoughts?? |

Hey Shelly,
I think that's a great idea. Keep me updated. -Holly |

Google paddle prattle. You'll find the mcc discussion board. They post a Wednesday night paddle each week normally from anglers to lock 10. Easy class 2. Big group. Just check there each Tuesday or Wednesday to get specifics. Newbies are always welcome.

Good advice about checking Paddle Prattle, but starting about a month ago when the water level got lower the Wed night paddle moved to a Little Falls run with a bit of Class III and the organizer no longer encourages novices to join. I've had good luck getting folks to paddle with by sending an email a day or two in advance, but think your idea of setting something regular up is great.

I second Valerie's suggestion. Email the mailing list a couple days before you want to go (e.g. Thursday) and see who jumps at it. I guestimate that 10 or more of us are on the water at some point over the weekend, so chances are you'll find someone willing to join you.
Paddle Prattle is another option; under the 'About' page there is a link to their list serve as well as others. I'm out of town now, but I'd be up for paddling over Labor Day weekend! Rhys |

I'd be up for a weekly run, but also like the idea of organizing it a couple of days in advance. I'd probably be able to make it 3 out of 5 weeks. Thanks.

I would like to do Sundays when I'm in town and not travelling or kayaking elsewhere...My wife works every other Sat., so we're usually here for those weekends.
