my first Moco? t'was epic in it's word. never rode farther than 26 miles on a single ride before, this was 66.2 per strava. those sport legs caps helped me (i think), and those aid stations with all you can get energy gels, haha.. i always run out of water, kinda plan to drink a liter for each 7.4 mile in between stops. memo to myself though: not to switch to 32X19 gear the eve of the ride, it's doable, but not fun for long rides. total hours on the bike, 10 hrs 1 minute. would i do it again? hell yeah! lol.. btw, that Potomac River ride is 3.3 miles.

Great ride today! Not a scratch, not a fall ... that feels good ... and to top it off a 7.8 mph moving pace (according to Strava), my phone died with three to go. Alex, Leah and Molly, a pleasure riding with you guys! Nikki, too bad we got separated, Jorge I hope you guys finished well after that flat. Always a pleasure to share with all of you, see you all soon.

Jose and Juan: are we good for EZ-up? As Juan said, it's first come first served, so we need to get there early Saturday or even late Friday night to set up. Anyone live close enough to do that? What's the plan? Kem, you know I love it when a plan comes together, LOL!)

So, is the official ride on Sunday? I was going to hit Schaeffer Saturday, maybe 1 or 2ish. It looks like I will be good, based on last week's schedule (they will be doing skills clinic and Seneca Ridge). Because it rained thursday, Schaeffer will be the trail in the best shape... otherwise, I would do muddy branch or seneca greenway on Saturday. I did spot the Bluff trail on a road ride recently. That is one I have never done before. Eager to try it soon.

    October 18, 2013

  • Larry F.

Hi all, I am from San Diego and just moved here for a new job. In San Diego I could hit several different trails on my way home from work. Now that winter is approaching and the days light will be gone earlier are there trails where I can nite ride? Looking at Conway Robinson for some nite ride cardio possibilities on my way up to the Centreville area from South DC. I don't prefer nite riding but I will take whatever I can get on the weekdays. I am going to hit Fountain Head this Sunday. Looks promising. I am very used to gutting out brutal climbs on the mountains in San Diego. Are there any areas local that offer some quick intense climbing? I look forward to meeting some of you and seeing you on the trails.

    October 18, 2013

    • Laird M.

Not sure about night riding in Patapsco Valley SP, but it can provide you with a few steep up and downs that may give you what you want. There used to be a weekly ride thru this meetup but we started to run out of daylight after work so it was stopped. MORE has a few that you can join to show you around on weekends. Check it out!

      October 18, 2013

Anyone in the Burtonsville, MD area interested in carpooling to the event on Sunday morning? It looks like the parking is going to be tight? I can provide gas money. If I had a bigger car I would offer to drive :)

    • Ian

I'll be going by that area on my way. I'm doing the 65, so planning on being there 645-7, and probably will not be done till 3 or so.

      October 10, 2013

    • Victor B.

Oliver, you are right, I saw that, but still I emailed the guy ... In any case that is going to be an expensive t-shirt! But I don't feel that bad because it is money that will go to maintaining the trails we enjoy every weekend. I can't complain!

    From the MOCO,

Good day MoCo Epic riders and volunteers:

I am just returning from checking several trail systems that are part of the Epic, including Schaeffer, Hoyles Mill, Little Bennett, the Seneca Greenway and Muddy Branch and after talking with the entire MoCo Epic team, MORE, IMBA, Montgomery Parks, as well as park managers, we have taken the decision to postpone the event until next weekend (Oct 19 and 20)
