Fairland Monday

This ride will be on Monday since I (Jose) got BB drama and I may not be able to ride for a while, BB is due soon and I am taking the day off, LOL.

Use the link below as a TOOL to match your skill level and fitness. The Levels are rated 1-5.

About Fairland: 95% non-technical ride with few major climbs and no mandatory obstacles (they all have ride-arounds). Promise, no rocks. None! (there is one section of busted-up concrete, but it's not rocks, and it's only 10-15 feet long). Anyway, there are a couple good places to stop and practice log-overs, and balance on the boardwalks, and some good flow trails.

Intermediate Pace loop (Skill Level 4 / Fitness level between 3/4 (5 miles or so)

We will wait up at intersections, but most likely will start rolling when the last rider catches up. Fast paced, uphills kill me but I will do my best to get you guys a good run lol.

2nd Loop Beginner Friendly (Skill level between 2-3 / Fitness level 2 (about 7 miles or so)

A bit of a fast pace (will make stops at intersections if needed and short breaks). Beginners, 2nd loop shooting for wheels rolling at 6.

For directions: Google doesn't show the park well. The address above will not get you exactly where we are meeting. If you look at the map as a sat image, you'll see the main driveway, which doesn't show up in map view, Make a left at the end of the driveway, the parking lot is right there.

What to bring:

Plenty of water, helmet (no helmet no ride), your mtb of course!, multi-tool (although you can borrow mine), patch kit, extra tube (make sure it has the same valve you need for your wheel), a snack if you're doing both loops.

Note: Please read the document "Meetup Ride Waiver" (found under menu: More > Files > Meetup Ride Waiver) before attending this event. Mountain biking is an inherently dangerous sport, and by attending this ride, you acknowledge and have read, agree to and fully understand the aforementioned waiver.

I proposed a beginner ride at Fairland for this Saturday...pass it along to anyone that might be interested. We'll take it super-easy!

I think next time we will have to split the group for the second loop, faster pace and slower pace, any thoughts?

It's a good idea. Really, I think it depends on who shows up, and how the ride is described. If it's described as an easy/beginner-friendly pace and we have beginner-types there, then that's the pace it should be. If folks show up who want to ride faster, that's cool, but they can form their own speedy group. Just remember what it is you sign up for is what I'm saying. But speed demons applying pressure in a beginner-oriented ride only causes undue stress for those who might be interested in the sport, but discouraged. So...beginner-friendly means beginner-friendly. If the fast folks get the itch to go tearing off, it's totally cool, but the core ride will still be the core ride.

Let me first start by Apologizing to all, due to my 2nd loop aperance and other riders suggesting me to lead the pace went from 7.5 mph average moving for the 1st loop to 8.4 mph for the 2nd loop, again it was not my intension since I had a bit of energy and as I was trying to get Allen of my back but we all know the result to that exchange, LOL.

Thanks for hosting this ride, Kem. First loop was fast, and not unexpected. Second loop, billed as beginner-friendly, was too fast in my opinion.

Last year we would always wait for all riders. We just have to have a person to be a sweeper.

Had fun guys. Definitely a nice welcome back to the fray. Had myself an impromptu bath on the 3rd creek crossing which was nice. Nice to see some new faces and some old ones. Need to get back into riding shape for sure. See ya next week hopefully.
