Fairland Hump Day Ride

  • Jun 19, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This is a weekly ride, there is 2 different times for rides (5:30 and 6:30, read below for details)

Contact me for delays, or questions:[masked]FOUR

For directions: Google doesn't show the park well. The address above will not get you exactly where we are meeting. If you look at the map as a sat image, you'll see the main driveway, which doesn't show up in map view, Make a left at the end of the driveway, the parking lot is right there. We will be next to the bathrooms/basketball courts near the playground.

Please comment on what time you will be attending when you RSVP

Use the link below as a TOOL to match your skill level and fitness. The Levels are rated 1-5.
http://sacredrides.com/skill-and-fitness-ratings

About Fairland: 95% non-technical ride with few major climbs and no mandatory obstacles (they all have ride-arounds). Promise, no rocks. None! (there is one section of busted-up concrete, but it's not rocks, and it's only 10-15 feet long). Anyway, there are a couple good places to stop and practice log-overs, and balance on the boardwalks, and some good flow trails.

Intermediate Pace loop (Skill Level 4 / Fitness level between 3/4 (5 miles or so)

We will wait up at intersections, but most likely will start rolling when the last rider catches up. Fast paced, uphills kill me but I will do my best to get you guys a good run lol.

2nd Loop Beginner Friendly (Skill level between 2-3 / Fitness level 2 (about 7 miles or so)

A bit of a fast pace (will make stops at intersections if needed and short breaks).

Beginners, 2nd loop shooting for wheels rolling at 6:30.

Please keep in mind that this loop is to encourage beginners to join us, patience is needed from the faster riders, if you wish for a fast competitive pace, this is not the ride for you.

What to bring:

Plenty of water, helmet (no helmet no ride), your mtb of course!, multi-tool (although you can borrow mine), patch kit, extra tube (make sure it has the same valve you need for your wheel), a snack if you're doing both loops.

Note: Please read the document "Meetup Ride Waiver" (found under menu: More > Files > Meetup Ride Waiver) before attending this event. Mountain biking is an inherently dangerous sport, and by attending this ride, you acknowledge and have read, agree to and fully understand the aforementioned waiver.

Chris, I freely admit that I'm both envious and covetous over your bike.

For whatever reason, this ride seemed particularly fun. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to riding Fairland tomorrow in a completely different way!

just FYI my wife is on the way for the 5:30 ride, but traffic - give here a few extra minutes otherwise she would have to sit around for an hour. (well Kem you know her)

How's the drainage at Fairland? It's claiming only 20% chance of rain from 11 - 6.

    June 19, 2013

    • Craig B.

Drainage is very good at Fairland

Unfortunately there has been rain and also thunderstorms coming, I'm rescheduling this to tomorrow. If you can't make it, make sure to update your RSVP

    June 18, 2013

    • Tom G.

I believe I should be able to make it, hopefully it doesn't rain too much for the trails and they will be dry enough

      June 18, 2013

      Hopefully next week...

    Paddling practice is on Wednesday...

    June 18, 2013

  • Kem C.

Oh boy... here comes the rain

    June 18, 2013

    • Laura

It is odd. Before 2013, scattered meant no rain. This year it means rain.

      1 · June 18, 2013

I see Mostly Sunny 79 with 20% chance rain tomorrow?

We've gotten a few showers so far, not too bad, keeping an eye on this live stream of the area: http://170.93.143.139:1935/rtplive/33000ab5004b0005004be33696235daa/playlist.m3u8

I have to be packed up and gone by 8 pm. So i hope the second loop can start on time and finish in about an hour. If not i will have to pass...

    June 17, 2013

    • Kem C.

We do 5 miles on the first part of the second loop, then come near the parking lot, so you can bail early if you want.

      A former member

Doing the second loop always takes more than an hour. Like Kem said, there are reasonable bail-out points along the way, but, being a beginner loop, we don't rush things.

      June 18, 2013

  • Chris E.

Not sure which group to ride with? I'll be coming from Frederick so I'll want to time it right. How are climbs here? I ride MX and hare scrambles, so downhill and tough stuff isn't a problem, but I might be huffing and puffing on the up hills, don't want to hold anybody up if I come for the 530 group. I'm on a 2013 GT Zaskar 9r Sport

    June 17, 2013

    • Chris E.

Oops, should have read the description, 530 loop looks to fit me after all, see you guys there!

      June 17, 2013

    • Kem C.

If we start at 5:30pm Sharp, we won't have to rush it too much.

    5.30

    June 17, 2013

  • Chris E.

Fairly new to riding MTB, plenty of MX and harescramble experience, I reside and work in Frederick, but I'll be there at 530.

    June 17, 2013

  • Scott

First time with the group - I'll ride the beginner loop at 6:30.

    June 17, 2013

  • Tom G.

Alrighty so the beginner loop now starts at 630 this tuesday?

I haven't been here so I'll prob get here early (prob around the time of the intermed ride) and ride around the trials before hand. Don't want to hop into intermediate yet since I do not know the speed and such and I'm still relatively new.

Also this is my first group ride with everybody. Who/what do I look or ask for when I get there?

Hi Tom. Correct with the 6:30, and if you're unsure about the speed then definitely plan on 6:30. 5:30 loop is usually pretty brisk... Kem's car is a "pepper white" Mini Cooper. Looking forward to meeting you!

      June 16, 2013

    • Kem C.

Yes pepper white cooper it is! BTW Intermediate ride averages 7-8mph

I will do the beginner friendly ride at 6:30.

    June 16, 2013

  • Jose T.

Kem do you want the time bumpup to 6 pm for every other scheduled ride.

This is a good idea. More people will make the ride, for sure.

      Done!!!

      1 · June 12, 2013

I'll try to make it. I'll do the more beginner ride at 6pm since I'm new into Mtn Biking

    June 11, 2013

  • Chris E.

Fairly new to riding, I reside and work in Frederick, but I'll do what I can to make this, may bring another beginner friend along.
