ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS - Introduction to Trail Riding (Helpers Wanted)

RIDE LEADER: Brian

NUMBER: (seven-o-tree...tree-too-tree...for-for-o-fife)

Have you been longing to try mountain biking but don't know how to get started?

Have you ridden on paved trails or the street but never on dirt?

Are you a TRUE beginner with no real skills to speak of and want a place to start?

Want a friendly and patient environment with like-minded beginners?

These are some of the reasons I've decided to post this ride.  If you're a total newbie, this is the place for you to start.  Mountain biking isn't the safest pastime in the world, but this ride will be about as safe as it gets, and in a low-stress environment.  I've reserved this ride for newbies, so you can feel free to ask any questions you want without being embarrassed.  We'll work on a few basic skills, hopefully with the end result of riding some real trails in a controlled and safe manner.  This will help prepare you for some of the other, more demanding beginner rides that are posted regularly.

We're only meeting at the skills park.  We are NOT riding it...we're gonna ride around it. ^_^

I'll add more details as I come up with them!

Just food for thought, but it might be a good idea to let some more seasoned riders come for this as well. That way there are more experiences (tips, tricks and whatnot) that can be shared with people who are just getting into the sport.

Ben, that's what I originally intended, and is a really good idea. I'm going to change the title to reflect this. I could always use the help, especially since I need a lot of technical help myself. I am only scheduling this one because some folks need a real introduction in a low-key environment. Thanks for the catch!

Was looking forward to when this was going to be rescheduled and RSVP'ed immediately until I remembered I have a wedding that weekend in Harrisonburg and can't make it back in time :( So I have been out on trails about 3 times before, and can handle it, just don't quiet have the confidence on the trails yet. Would the beginner rides be to tough for a three time out beginner?? Just don't want to be the slow poke everyone is waiting on!!

At true beginner rides, the slowpoke everyone is waiting on is the star of the show! If you've actually ridden the trails and roots and dirt don't freak you out, you're good to go.
