RIDE LEADER: Peter A
Join us for some plain ol’ dog dayz trail riding at Schaeffer… not too fast, not too slow, probably just do our normal loop, play around the roller coaster section for awhile, and maybe grab a brew at Dogfish after. Ya gotta love August. Nice recovery ride if you rode with Brian and Kem at Rosaryville on Saturday.
When choosing a group ride there are two categories to consider: pace and terrain. Most ride leaders here have agreed to use the ride classifications from MORE’s website so you know just what to expect on this and every ride. Complete info may be found at: http://www.more-mtb.org/rides
PACE on this ride will be: Casual/Moderate: Riders with an average level of fitness and at least a few months of regular riding under their belts should do fine on this level of ride.
TERRAIN on this ride will be: Intermediate: Assumes the rider has basic MTB skills. There will be obstacles which require the rider to get their front wheel off the ground to clear successfully. Short steep climbs and descents may be encountered.
DISTANCE: Approx. 8-10 miles (not sure of exact route yet, depends on group dynamics and trail conditions).
DURATION: Ride time approx. 2 hours; total time approx. 3 hours, depending on group dynamics, trail conditions, wait-ups, mechanicals and/or number of breaks.
NO-DROP POLICY: This is a no-drop ride, i.e., we wait up for everyone at intersections. If you don’t want to wait up for slower riders, this is not the ride for you. It is not a training ride, and Racer X will be disappointed. By the same token, it’s not an easy ride either, and inexperienced riders will be unable to keep up. If you find it impossible to maintain the pace as stated above or your bike breaks down at every turn, please consider excusing yourself, so that others may continue to enjoy the ride. It happens to the best of us and you will avoid getting the dreaded evil-eye from the rest of the group.
BRING: Helmet (required), water, spare tube/patch kit, multi-tool, I.D. and emergency contact info where it can be easily located on your person.
WEATHER: Shine Only (no ride if it’s raining or the trails are too muddy). Protect our trails and don’t ride them when they’re fragile.
DIRECTIONS: Near 14799 Schaeffer Road, Germantown, MD. Turn left on to dirt road, stay to left and follow to parking lot at end. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=14799+Schaeffer+Road,+Germantown,+MD
