This month's guest: Sara Polon, Local Entrepreneur and Soupergirl. www.thesoupergirl.com
Sara says: "I decided to start this business after reading Michael Pollan’s book, Omnivore’s Dilemma. I decided that I wanted to get involved in the local food movement ...
"Why soup? Quite simply, every day is a good day for soup! Soup is also the perfect medium to easily incorporate healthy eating into your life. Worried about getting the 5-7-a-day vegetable recommendation? Need to add more whole grains into your life? Soup!
"We prepare soup the way it was meant to be made. Our soups are made from scratch, and cooked slowly with love. They are homemade with fresh and seasonal ingredients. Many of our vegetables and herbs are organic and come from local farms around the area. A lot comes from a farm in Virginia called the Farm at Sunnyside. Other produce comes from a farm called Next Step Produce. Check them both out every Sunday at the Dupont Circle Famers Market. We get more produce from a local farm coop called Tuscaora. The produce from Sunnyside, Next Step, and Tuscaora is both local AND organic! Our favorite combination!"
