Update 1: Looks as if the weather will be on our side this Friday, clear skies and about 68 degrees. The perfect temperature for a roof top deck. The first stop is going to offer $15 buckets of beer (that 5 beers!), which should help the wallets. I assure all those interested in other drinks that there is a full bar available. Again, this place also serves food for those in need. I am very much looking forward to this night and the weekend in general (I cant be alone on this one). See you soon. Stephen
Since 2001, a number of Ethiopian restaurants and retail businesses have either opened or moved from nearby Adams Morgan into the Shaw Neighborhood, settling in particular on the once desolate block of 9th Street NW between U and T Streets. This influx of Ethiopians has revitalized the corridor, prompting members of that enterprising community to lobby the city to officially designate the block as "Little Ethiopia." Additionally, Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia, is the third most used language in DC after English and Spanish.
Our first spot has one of the best roof decks in the city. The best part is no one has discovered it yet. While others default to the crowds of Local 16 to be on a deck you can find plenty of space here. A few years back it was just another Ethiopian Resturant. The owner later closed it and made it her house (when you see the size you will understand how impractical it was). It re-opened in 2007 and now caters to a neighborhood crowd. The kitchen is open until 11pm on Fridays so those wanting food can easily obtain it and sit outside.
To keep this night a little more "Friday casual" we may only do two stops. However, if we opt for three stops, the second stop will be a venue called Duffies. Duffies was opened by a group of Steve's old friends who left the Cleveland Park neighborhood to open a venue in a booming, undiscovered part of the city. Duffies is across the street from the more established 930 Club. Duffies is a friendly place with a good juke box and, best of all, $2 Friday beers.
The final venue, and the highlight, will be the Liberation Dance Party thrown every Friday night at DC9.

DC9 has a small bar down stairs and a great dance floor upstairs. The music is the best you will hear in the city. This is where you go to discover new music...British Pop being the most popular. The upstairs area has big video screens that plays videos and displays the club's "text the DJ" requests. DC9 is a very fun place on a Friday.
This part of the city is one of those unknown places to go and is a favorite of the organizer's. This is a change of pace night for us so enjoy! Leave the heels at home... think Rock and Roll.
The nearest metro is U Street Cardoza on the Green Line. When you get off the train be sure and walk to your right, out the East Exit. The escalators will put you on U St. Take a right and walk one block to the address above.
See you out!
