Update 1: Were pushing to have our largest group yet. Its refreshing to see a good mix of familiar faces and some new ones. At last check the highs will reach around 20 degrees tomorrow so bundle up in your Red AND Blue, now is not the time to advertise political affiliation (Red or Blue).... this is about unity :) Reminder: with a large crowd its best to have cash on hand to ease leaving the first couple places as we will be doing so all at once. Also, please update your RSVP if you or a friend of yours cannot attend before 1200 tomorrow to allow others a chance to get in....See you soon. If you get lost give me a buzz. [masked] Stephen
The Inauguration Kick Off Party
Inauguration weekend is here and we want to jump start the fun on a Friday as opposed to our normal Saturday. No matter who you voted for, Inauguration weekend is something we all can celebrate. The peaceful transfer of power will be the back drop to our "non-peaceful" night out. You are all encouraged to add a little red and blue to your outfits in the spirit of the event.
Since pretty much every neighborhood in DC will be packed for the weekend, we've decided on an area outside of city. For this event we have chosen the Ballston neighborhood in Arlington to be the stomping grounds. Like most neighborhoods in the DC area Ballston has seen itself cycle through boom and bust. Ballston was named after relatives of George Washington, the Ball family. Interestingly the Metro stop built in 1979 was going to be deemed Glebe Road. All this changed when the fire department insisted that the name of the volunteer station being built then (moved to make way for the Metro stop) not be named Glebe Road Fire Department but The Ballston Fire Department. The name stuck and Metro waned. The area is now a diverse collection of long time residents, relocated government agencies, and a new wave of post graduates hitting the job market. This conglomerate reflects an area that appears to be in search of an identity. As such we will be going to three spots that, while within a short walk, cater to different crowds.
Our first stop is a new sushi bar known for its hip interior (check the photos) and great sushi.
The second stop, The Carpool is a popular get-away for those looking for a few drinks and some fun and games.
The last haute local will be a local favorite for dancing, replete with Latin flare. We'll be heading to Caribbean Breeze for their Sizzling South Beach Friday. We've got the cover waived for our group, and the DJ's ear.
Don’t forget your red and blue!
Stephen and Jeremy
