We're back after a 5-week break!
K Street is a major thoroughfare known for numerous think tanks, lobbyist, and advocacy groups that exercise influence over the federal government. K Street is also the name of a 2003 HBO show about lobbyists and politicians. It was produced by George Clooney, which may explain why it lasted only 10 episodes. The small collection of lounges, bars, and clubs near K and 14th Streets are upscale venues, so bring a couple of extra dollars and dress to impress.
Our first stop will be the lounge in one of DC’s finest restaurants. Located in the art deco Tower Building, one will find a décor of high ceilings, mirrors, gold accents, and mermaids (statues that is). When it was built in 1929, the Tower Building was DC’s tallest building: now it’s the 10th. The venue caters to DC’s elite and well off.
Our next stop will be an upscale rock and motorcycle bar called Tattoo (think Hard Rock Café for 20 and 30 somethings http://www.tattoobard.... The décor is rather presumtious and the restrooms are just that, rooms, albeit the prison style toliets and sinks. The DJ spins some great rock, metal, and even top 40 tunes, complete with accompanying videos. The venue gets crowded later in the night, but we’ll be ahead of the rush. Your awesome organizers have gotten the cover waived (it’s normally $10 to $20 depending on entry time). We’re also working on drink specials.
Our final stop will be the Lotus Lounge (http://www.lotusloung.... Lotus is decked out like an Asian music video complete with rose-petal archways, a Buddha sculpture, oriental themed murals, colored lighting, and a sushi bar. The DJ typically spins a top 40/ techno mix, and our group will hopefully jump start the dance floor. Again, your (awesome) organizers have gotten the cover waived (it’s normally $20). We’re also working on drink specials.
The nightlife area of K Street is around K and 14th Streets, NW. It’s right next to Franklin Park, and easily accessible by the metro, McPherson Square (Orange/Blue Lines) and Farragut North (Red Line). Parking is at a premium, so it’s recommended to take the metro or a taxi. Keep in mind the metro closes at 3. All of our venues are very close, so there won't be much walking.
After a five-week break, we’re looking forward to this one. This will also be our final winter outing since spring is right around the corner!
Keep in mind your organizers reserve the right to omit, change, or substitute venues as seen fit depending on the group dynamics, scheduling, and available space. The pub crawl officially ends at midnight but I'm sure most of us will be out well past that. Disclaimer: Yes, it's perfectly fine if you choose to get intoxicated, drunk, blitzed, plastered, wasted, toasted, smashed, or pissed. However, make sure you have a friend present to take on any applicable baby sitting duties.
