We’re back after an August break!
So, onto our September outing. Originally named Iowa Circle, Congress changed the name to Logan Circle in 1930 after civil war general and Congressman John Logan. The area was once known simply as a swampy area north of downtown. It has changed over the years to a civil war barracks, a bustling retail district, an overt drug and prostitution zone following the infamous 1968 riots, and today it's one of DC’s hottest neighborhoods. Just as the Verizon Center revitalized Chinatown, one could claim Logan Circle's resurgence resulted in large part to a supermarket. Supermarket chain Whole Foods converted a rundown garage in the neighborhood in 2000 and sparked intense interest in the neighborhood. It’s now bustling with pedestrians, traffic, construction, and new restaurants and bars. The Whole Foods is going strong by the way-it’s among the highest grossing Whole Foods stores in the country.
Our first stop will be a neighborhood staple often overlooked for the newer bars in the neighborhood. It’s a hotel bar with a trendy indoor and outdoor area, modern vibe, and it’s never over-crowded. The drink special will be a $5 mystery punch made specifically for our group. Your organizers will also have a handful of free drink tickets to hand out to the cool kids. :-)
Our second stop will be Draft Table. The venue is just shy of their one-year anniversary. They specialize in (you guessed it) draft beers. The venue has a small outdoor area, a large in door area, and will be putting 10 of their 15 draft beers on an after 10pm happy hour. That’s $4 quality draft beers.
Our final venue will be the rooftop bar at the Hotel Donovan. With summer fading away, this will be a great last opportunity to enjoy a drink on a rooftop deck overlooking the district. The deck includes a swimming pool, but unfortunately no late night swimming to our knowledge. The venue use to allow late night underwear swimming, but it varies by manager, night, security, and vibe. Maybe we’ll get lucky!
Getting There: Logan Circle is several blocks away from a metro station. There is the U Street metro station to the north (green and yellow), McPherson Square to the south (orange and blue), and Dupont Circle to the west (red).

Reminder: Due to the very limited number of RSVP's available on this outing, please RSVP only if you plan to come out. Likewise, if things change, please un-RSVP. Also, while we love meeting new faces, everyone is strongly encouraged to RSVP through the web site or be a guest of a member. The cover is waived for our group and the first thing most venues want is our RSVP list. Please remember to get to the first venue early enough to mingle, and certainly early enough to join us as we move on to the second venue.
Disclaimer: Keep in mind your organizers reserve the right to omit, change, or substitute venues as seen fit depending on the group dynamics, scheduling, and available space. The pub crawl officially ends around midnight but we’re sure most of us will be out well past that. Yes, it's fine if you choose to get intoxicated, drunk, blitzed, plastered, wasted, toasted, smashed, or pissed. However, make sure you have a friend present to take on any applicable baby-sitting duties.
