Trevor Carpenter from photowalking.org is in town and we will be co-organizing the photowalk with him. The following is the event description from his website:

"So, on August 22nd at 6pm all those who can attend should arrive at the Lincoln Memorial, on the National Mall, in Washington, DC. We’ll be catching the sunset there, and wandering on down the Mall. As the evening arrives, my hope is to capture as many of the wonderfully historical monuments and memorials in the dark night. Most of these sights are well lit in the evening, so we should have a great opportunity. This photowalk [from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol Building] should be about 3 miles, so be prepared to walk a bit.

"Important points:

  • Meet on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, at 6pm.
  • Be prepared to walk a few miles.
  • Be prepared to shoot some low light stuff too. (tripod!)

"And as usual, afterwards, we’ll hit a local pub for a drink or coffee.

[Ken:] I'm sure us locals have seen the monuments, memorials, and museums many times before, but maybe you haven't tried shooting them at night. Or maybe you just want to learn or practice some night photography.

Note: Tripods are useful for low light photography, but as we in DC know, they can be a point of contention around town. Make sure your tripod has rubber feet -- the Park Police requires them in and around the memorials.

Anyone who RSVPs Yes will receive an email from me 24-48 hours before the event with my contact info in case you have any trouble finding the group. If you aren't familiar with it already, please read our About Us page for our three strikes RSVP/no-show policy.

Hello everyone, I'm sorry I cannot be a part of this photowalk, but I am actually performing on that weekend and the following weekend as well. I will be acting at the Duke Ellington Theater. You all have a great time. Maybe there will be another night session. Hopefully, I can catch up with you all at the next event. Carol

Hi everyone, Just wanted to ask everyone a quick favor. If you have a Yahoo account, head over to Trevor's event page at http://upcoming.yahoo.com/e... , sign in, and click "I'm Coming". Trevor's based out of the west coast and has been organizing photowalks through his popular website photowalking.org for quite a while. Taking a minute to sign up on his event page will show his readers worldwide that there's in fact a strong photography community here in DC :) Thanks, Ken

    •  It was a great time. I did not get a lot in the way of photos, but it was fun and informational talking with others.
    •  It was my first meetup with this group. I had a great time and enjoyed talking with people about what they were looking for and how they post-process. The only problem was that I lost the group at the WWII Memorial and I had to walk back to my car (way over by the river) by myself after dark. And ... I would have loved to go out for a drink with everyone afterwards. (sigh....) My own fault....

Had a great time talking to other photographers. I loved the fact that there were people there with top of the line professional cameras and people with just their cell phone cameras -- the joy is in the act of photographing, not the gear itself.
    •  Really nice event, lots of people from various groups there, belonging to other clubs as well! I personally had to leave early because I was under a 3hour parking limit, but I got some good shots out in the time I had. Hope to see you all at the meetup next month!
    •  Had a great time and got plenty of excellent shots! Only complaint: contact info email should've been sent day before, since I can't access gmail from work. So any meetups during the week I'd be in the dark about since I'd be leaving from there.

    •  Had a great time.
    •  Ken did a great job coordinating and trying to keep things moving in the correct directions. Difficult rounding up all those people but he did a great job!
    •  Ken did a great job organizing. And he gets an AAA+ for the weather!!!
    •  Great event with lots of great picture opportunities. Thanks to all who organized this.

Lots of fun! There was a huge group and people were really nice and helpful in pointing out cool shots and tips on exposure and aperture and stuff...
    •  Very friendly, relaxed group of people. Hope to make this meet up a regular thing. A wide variety of people -- all ages (including two little babies with moms), skill levels, and even another Olympus user! Per usual, photography lovers were willing to share tips, compare shots, angles, etc. Very nice way to spend a few hours. Only sorry i lost the group and missed the beers afterwards!
